Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

Has anyone heard any rumblings about more layoffs?

Even just rumors? We’re all walking on eggshells, and it’d be nice to know if something’s coming so we can brace for it. Radio silence just makes it worse.

@caw I haven’t heard anything but if I had to guess the next round would align with timing of the brand portfolio prioritization chart quickly mentioned in the last town hall. I’d guess before Q1 earnings. Not far off from the standard cycle

Soft layoffs

@qw I heard the delay is due to the investors and lawyers demanding outside experts inspect the park and sign off before it can open to the public.

@4qp+1k1tswttm Sometimes names get deleted so people just put initials instead. I think it has something to do with site rules.

Just put off the names. Don't abbreviate. The site is anonymous.

Supposed to open at the end of the year. But apparently someone died during the construction. Tragic accident. Still under construction if you can call it that. Sitting there with no one working on it. Why don't you go ask Ynot.

Still got bets that this is gonna be a write off.

Did that theme park in AZ ever open?

In the meantime let's throw more money at a stupid theme park in the middle of the desert. Yeah who thought that was a good idea?
Guess how many people we're gonna lose when that venture goes all fyre festival. But don't you worry about long lines in the heat kids. Your brands ain't strong enough to bring any more than the die hard kooks out there in the beautiful Arizona sun. And when the desert is full of dehydrated pa----s in pink tutus and old farts in "vintage" (they love that word) HW tees clutching their die cast in one hand and a half na--d steroidal He-man in the other. Y not might finally admit that all this was because he needed a big write off. LOL.
Yes fans, I see nothing but good times ahead!

Layoffs for the rest of the year depends on whether your BU has hit its SGA reduction goal. If it hasn't, expect some layoffs. If it has, brace for layoffs in February.

All open headcount will be taken away in October.

Anyone over 45 is especially at risk regardless of whatever HR legal and ethics claim. The bottom line is if your experience, you're too expensive.

Promotions are frozen across the board.

Embrace for budget cuts like you've never seen before next year. We talk about cutting bone because we're so thin after years of cutting and continual layoffs. now we will be cutting through the bone and throwing shipmates overboard to lighten the load.

Tariffs will dig into profitability, but I had nothing to do with the poor Q2 results. The decline in dolls, for example, was all about demand evaporation not pricing action.

The tariffs will bite in Q3 and Q4. Then it's gonna get ugly. $12 stock price. Material weaknesses across the board due to failing internal controls. Activist investor will take on large equity stake due to the "value of the IP" and enforce even more draconian cuts until we end up being pieced out with Hasbro acquiring half the assets.

All the optimism will be misdirected towards the new movie releases, but even if they sre big hits like Barbie, the revenue impact would be small. On the other hand, if the movies bo-b then the negative impact will eviscerate all hope.

Well all you have to do was listen to the 2nd quarter financial results. It's typically the worst time of the year so Mattel typically will try to offset that by doing layoffs to decrease their operating income. And guess why 2nd quarter was worse this year for everyone? Yes, it was tariffs. The thing that you cultists swore that the rest of wouldn't be paying for, right.
Anyways, dolls were down 19% comp to last year, infant toddler and preschool down 25% (ouch). Good bye FP. But HW up 10% and games action figures and games up 16%. Probably because of Minecraft. So yeah you're probably safe teddy. But whoo the rest of you in the girls divisions and preschool better keep your heads down because 3rd quarter ain't gonna be any better. And you know Mattel's gonna need to lower that "operating income" and it's gonna have your face on it LOL.
But hey it's just another day at the farm isn't it?let's all pretend that everything's great and there's sunshine coming out our @$$.
Hahahaha.
Y'all got a whole nother quarter to start looking!

Coming from someone who worked at Mattel for 35 yrs, always be prepared. Layoffs are a way of life at Mattel, it’s a shame but everyone is dispensable. You are an “at will” employee, effectively there is no such thing as job security.
