Thread regarding USAA layoffs

PTO for breaks or lunches

While I’m no longer a front line msr, during my days in the call center (2017-2019), my manager did make us use PTO if our aux time for the day was over 8 minutes, and if we went over our break/lunch by 8 minutes.

  • 25 PTO for 8 minutes
  • 50 PTO for 30 minutes
  • 75 PTO for 45 minutes

You are incorrect in your statement. My contacts with the Department of Labor have stated this is an abusive environment, and management should be be flexible in a "good faith" manner. This behavior has caused many fines in other companies.

@4zwa+1s7zQhDw you're misinformed on many fronts. First off if you have a disability that requires you to use the restroom often you can get an accommodation. The policy applies to the entire company not just member contact employees. So before you make assumptions ask questions so you get the full picture

This policy is not legal. So many violations just on the American with Disabilities Act, if you have a medical condition that requires you to use the bathroom.

Most companies avoid this due to the legal complications, and they would have to make the policy company wide. Not just for one department. This is so wrong!

All you need is someone with a medical condition to file with the EEOC or State Department of Labor Office.

Many call centers use this same rule for time away from the phone. I don't agree with it, but the ones who abuse the rules cause these d-mb types of outcomes for all.

I have to say… This is one of the stupidest policies I have heard of in a while. One of those d-mb “leaders” knows that this is happening…. For the love of God, will somebody STANDUP!

I don’t understand how this policy is legal.

They make me use pto as well. It would be ok if accurate amounts were used. The .25 increments is essentially theft. If we use under that amount, and are forced to report higher time off, then our time off is being stolen. At least use exact numbers for accuracy.

Why 15 min…it’s just like the 4/5 round down or up in math. If you clock in 7 min after the hour, it rounds down to say 9:00. If you clock in 8 min after the hour, it rounds up to 9:15. Don’t be more than 7 min late. You are welcome.

We have to do the same thing. Only thing I don’t understand is why do we have to use increments of 15 min of pto if our aux is less than 15

I’m the OP, again I’m no longer in the call center as I have moved into a non member contact role. However, when I was in the call center, my adherence was always above 90% (dept goal during that time was 85%). So 8 minutes of AUX/ACW time, in a 8-10 hour day depending on your schedule, it’s almost impossible to take call after call with no breather in between, so 8 minutes adds up FAST.

I am sorry that happened to you and I hope you were not targeted. However, if you are continuously late, this is the way it works. Tough lesson but time management is a part of any job. Was this a first offense?
