Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

PMIC experience

I joined the PMIC team in San Diego less than couple years ago as I though it would be a good fit for my background. Things started to change quickly after the initial honey moon period. Hard work and knowledge don't count and seem to pose a threat to the senior leads. Culture is cliquey and people within the gang can be hostile and brutal to outsiders. During the last review, my manager gave me low rating, and his justification was I don't fit well within the group. Well, I can't change my ethnicity and I am not willing to learn Chinese to be able to fit in.

Is that normal across the board or did I just end in a sh!tty team? I interned one summer at a different company during college and everybody was pleasant and helpful. Qualcomm is my first job after college, so I don't have many other experiences to compare to. I read a post here about someone's experience at QCA, Post ID: @OP+1m1IaXp3, and it resonated well with my experience. The job market is very tough right now but I am actively looking. Is it wise to apply to job postings internally to avoid the hassle of relocating, or should I quit Qualcomm altogether?

@4ywu You are either one of the delusional managers, xma himself or one of his Chinese cronies. Go talk to the HR, xma is a famous name there.

After all I've seen and experienced while I was at Q, I think of the culture as a trough on a farm, with hogs and pigs squeezing together, pushing and shoving, trying to eat as much as they can, as fast as they can. It's sickening.

Everybody knows that xma is just a despicable slæve driver with very little technical skills. The upper management are fully aware of that and they are protecting him so they don't have to deal with junior engineers (slæves) directly. I am not surprised at all he caused 7 to 8 people to leave last year, as someone said here. I left that group just before the bug hit because of him. I know a few other guys who left around the same time for similar reasons. TC wasn't the main motivation.
FWIW, HR are aware of what is going on for years since they have been receiving complaints about him, but the managers needs him to bark at and bite the slæves.

Bro, I left last year. XMA single handedly caused at least 7 to 8 people to leave last year. No one is going to be honest to the d-mb management on what triggered us to look elsewhere. It is XMA who started it but always TC that seals da deal. Peace out.

@1nig+1mfDc00i Not just modem, camera as well. Short little men with complexes thinking they're Ghengh!s Khan. Upper management won't touch PMIC, modem, camera, because they're considered "important". So the little power goes to their little heads.

This thread brings back some fond memories (NOT) at the PMIC. I left a few years ago for the same reasons the OP and other people on this thread have mentioned. I am flabbergasted that xma is still there. It seems upper management either don't understand what is going on or don't care or both. Definitely keep looking and move somewhere else.

Qualcomm pmic was my first full time job as well and after shockingly bad experience, I moved to another company. I felt there is no hope in Q after talking to HR. Just try to find a job outside of Q. Even though the job market is tough, you will get a job eventually and I believe it will be far better than moving internally

I have news for you, every team in Qualcomm is like this. The culture is a product of JT and his attitudes

If the OP is required to speak Chinese to fit in, then most likely he works in xma's subgroup. This group is known for encouraging this behavior. I've heard terrible stories about this group.

Find a job in another team and then then report discriminatory behavior to HR

Jump to another team if they will take you.

What’s your background? GPU team and Auto BU are still hiring, and I would suggest to search internal positions first. There are some good teams in Qualcomm, you just need to find one that fits you. Hang in there and don’t give up.

What role in PMIC? VI, systems, test or design? People ( or maybe it is just one dude, who knows?) seem to be vocal about hating VI
