For those who work at Elevance, would you say it is a toxic place to work?

Yes, toxic. Subject Matter Experts who identify issues with new projects are often removed from projects, and then eventually RIF'd. Saying 'yes' is a must - no one will accept a 'this won't work, let's try another option.' Projects will be complete within budget and timeline - regardless of the consequences. Due diligence does not occur when selecting new vendors to work with - even vendors who have not completed previous projects. Senior leaders routinely stretch the truth on how well projects are doing..... only reporting the positives to the top management. How many more lawsuits from providers for not paying their claims will need to occur before quality matters over a timeline? How many more medical records need to be lost and resubmitted 3 times? Pre-authorization does not happen because the medical records cannot be located within the company. Lack of solid controls is hurting members and providers. Before I left the company my manager submitted an Ethics complaint - and was promptly removed from meetings for retaliation. Everyone is afraid to report anything - - for example the Sr VP of Ops is having an affair with a claims mgr.... we know because his secretary is upset... as he dumped her. Of course he is married. Everyone knows.... but no one will report. I am so happy that I left and wish I would have 2 years ago!
Sorry I meant to specify that I've seen recruiters ON LINKEDIN actively looking for Anthem employees that have been let go.
As an RN, it's the least toxic place I have worked. I know this is a bad situation, but I'm hearing and seeing that other companies are laying off as well (and the info is slowly trickling out). This is a sign of a bigger problem in our economy, and we sadly have to ride it out. It's a hard time for everyone. It makes me incredibly sad. For those of you who have been RIF'd, I have seen that recruiters are actively seeking out Elevance employees that have been let go. Prayers for everyone!
I have been here 4 years. Started out in service and worked my way to manager. Never been in a toxic situation with this company. Honestly, I’ve been in jobs were the toxicity was worse, including working in the public schools. However here not a single day. I know people are mad at the situation. And I would be as well. But it is not just this company that goes thru restructuring and layoffs. You lose a 1.5 billion dollar deal, while implementing billion dollar changes, and things have to be restructured. The severance package offered from my understanding is some of the best around. So they aren’t doing what some are saying. Those that got riffed, my heart goes out to you.
I have never worked anywhere more toxic. And it comes straight from the top. HR sees their role as facilitating toxicity.
The CA teams are super toxic and awful humans.
The environment isn't toxic. But it is weird and very woke.
it depends on your manager's ability to handle it. in the past, my former manager nipped it in the bud quickly. my new manager, i really don't know what they do. they just delegate conflict resolution by telling you to see the person directly and that's it. right now i'm on a team that i like but clearly the senior person doesn't like me. very passive aggressive. so i do my best to be as transparent as possible yet document everything.
In the 4 years as a nurse case manager there is a lot of cliques, bullying and favoritism. The hardest working people I know get fired, layed off or leave eventually. I do not j wi what the formula is to not experience this type of toxic abuse as a nurse. Every job I have ever had has some form of abuse. At least I work from home and do not have to clean up po-p or get sp-t on just the normal everyday gaslighting and triangulation from my dysfunctional team leads and manager.
I absolutely agree with @4uqz+1mIpKSNG. It will NEVER change. Get out while you can still control your own destiny.
To the posters point below on "toxic alliances" - there is a reason and history behind that. Wellpoint, Anthem and now irrElevance was built almost entirely through mergers and acquisitions. Most associates with significant years in at the company started at a local state "Blue" that was taken over and absorbed into the current company. Moist employees from these local Blues we're RIFed except for the few that were able to "get in" with the parent company and they usually did this by "eliminating the competition" at their former Blue. I've seen the tactics of these stool pigeons first hand and it's shameful, however these are the people that are spotted throughout the org chart from Analyst to Chief. That's your reason for the toxic culture. The company was built on it. I'm glad I'm gone as this place will never change.
It's the worst!
I'd rather shave my a$$ and squat in a bowl of gin than work at this garbage dump.
No disrespect to anyone working in customer service, I consider your complaints a separate area. But outside of that , it seems on this forum Anthem has a lot more complaints from employees than any of the other health insurance players. That to me is not a coincidence.
It's toxic for one simple reason. Most leadership is relatively old and incompetent and built from toxic alliances that basically protect their jobs at the cost of everything else: infastructure, employee satisfaction, efficiency, effectiveness etc.
OMG .. how many times have this question been posted here .. the answer is YESSSSS .. for the past 2 decades this company have been a very TOXIC environment … most of the old timers are just riding it out and waiting to be RIF’ed and get their severance package. please .. stop asking .. this is no longer in question and now a fact of life in Elevance world !
To the IT poster, I too am in IT. You said it mildly when you say farmed out. I am on shore' awaiting my time I've been here just shy of 40 years, they will get me before I hit it , they are notorious for that. Yes it's usually pay day Thursdays they get you. . For the upcoming RIFs I will call out.. catch me if you can blessings
Probably depends upon what the line of responsibilities are.
As to IT, in the 20+ years I have been here, a lot has been farmed out. During that time, if one would fear being laid off, it went from every 6 months to every other week (Thursdays of non-pay weeks). Every now and then there were cuts that broke that mold, not many. So that was toxic in my opinion. My advice to those looking for a job, stay away, especially if you are in IT and your color is the combination of all colors in the spectrum.
So why stay? Not a lot of other options for me out there.
