Thread regarding MetLife Inc. layoffs

Make your predictions: RTO? "new" WFH Policies?

Make your predictions, when will the next official "RTO" date will be. (Nominally it will be sometime in March).

Also, do you think MetLife is going to announce any more WFH favorable policies?

I'm going to predict RTO is March 21, the first working day of Spring, and yes, I think MetLife is going to announce that more people can WFH permanently.

Imma laugh if people that were told in fall 2020 that they'd be full remote now get told they're going back to the office.

Heard from my manager today that roles were "looked at again" but they're still sticking to this cockamamie idea of regimented RTO by role classification rather than letting you and your manager work together on what makes sense for your actual team's situation. So much future winning!

Math?

Michel said do the math for when the earliest RTO date would be based on an email date of Feb 9? + 30 days.

Realistically that means March 14 at the earliest.

But, who knows if they will relent and make most office jobs WFH or CIWYFLI (come in when you feel like it).

So the math for what?

Ha! If the lifers could "do the math", this company wouldn't be in a constant remediation phase.

"You guys do the math."

Or, you know, you could have been prepared with an actual answer today. So much for transparency.

RTO makes no sense at all. The average 7 day new covid infection rate is 5,617 as of Feb 2, 2022. So why RTO now when infection rates are SUBSTANTIALLY HIGHER now than they were in October (1.404- 7 day average), June (409 - 7 day average) and May ( 1.126 - 7 day average). So do the math, even though this current variant surge may be waning as the new variant gains strength, it is still significantly higher that previous months.

RTO now is just irresponsible, and for a company that says they have their employees best interests in mind and that our health is paramount, then they need to do the right thing.
NO RTO

Earnings are good. Michel will be ecstatic. Maybe bonuses and raises will be too. We can only hope, and find out soon.

This decision will be to MetLife's detriment.
It already is having an impact.
Lets not forget the mandate.

I think the majority of people are going to be required to be in the office on a regular basis, which sucks.

If you go to the internal job site and use the "wfh" yes or no option to filter your results, it looks like only about 10-15% of the jobs have a "yes" for the wfh option.

Last day to make a prediction before LTL.

Predict what you think will happen or predict what you hope will happen.

If we need masks to go back, it's too early.

NYC has a vaccine mandate. It’s ridiculous! A city nor a company has zero business telling people they have to get an experimental vaccine as a condition of return to the office! This is going to be a problem.

Anyone else see the thing on my MetLife today with the LTL agenda? Sounds like we're gonna get a talking to.

  1. J. reports 22 COVID deaths, 1,987 cases. Death toll for January is most since early months of pandemic.

Mandate or not the virus is still spreading so RTO is just ridiculous.

Biden asks companies to mandate anyway.

Plus, the supreme court slapped down Biden's illegal mandate. Met can't use "it's the law" as an excuse.

No mandate!

@3eyt+1f25I98J Good point. The vaccine isn't achieving herd immunity, doesn't prevent you from getting COVID. It probably lessens the severity, but that's an individual thing. Seems like each person should get to weigh whether they think the shot benefit outweighs any potential risk. Met should stand down because the vaccine has not lived up to its promise.

It still remains to be seen if MetLife mandates the vaccine like other large financial companies have....Citi, JP Morgan, Blackrock, Morgan Stanley etc...

Yup - flex work model at employee discretion is key to retaining and attracting key talent.

And while it may not be in best interest to publicly embrace work from home due to capital investments, why can’t they simply open the doors for optional return once current public health surge levels again?

Why not wait and see exactly how many will voluntarily return? Seems like a better approach without understanding potential risk(s) other than obvious result of empty buildings. I do wish they would survey the entire workforce to truly analyze people choice. From what I see, based on water cooler chat, there are many who do want to return. I really would love to see the breakdown. I bet you there would be a split between those who want to be there full time and those on a “as needed” basis. Most are tired of shut in but want to be treated with respect of choosing their own in office frequency.

Regardless, ML would catch more bees with honey. It’s funny how much more willing people would be to return a couple days of week if the choice was theirs….

Use of unnecessary force to return to buildings just does not make sense for anyone at this point.

Agree it's critical for Met to get on board with the wfh model, but there is a big problem for them if they do. They own a ton of corporate real estate, so they can't be put there ba----g the drum for wfh, then trying to sell office space.

The Work from anywhere model will need to be embraced by MetLife for them to be able to complete for talent moving forward. They can no longer wait for old thinkers to understand the new environment and then slowly jump in. They should consider this 2 year pandemic work from home scenario as all the testing they would ever need to prove that the WFA model works and works well. Time to jump into the 21st century MetLife.
Location doesn't matter... Results do.

Met has to allow more wfh flexibility and permanent remote employees if they want to retain any talent at the current sub par pay scale.

RTO must be voluntary.
