Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Future staffing??

I was told by my rm that if your store does less than 1m (some strange calculation they are using, not based on what you did the previous fy) you are looking at 1 ft employee and 1pt at 50hrs a month (approx 12hrs a week).
Has anyoneelse heard this? And, if true now a manager is doing all the management stuff they currently do, plus the cashier, stock person, trash taker outer, housekeeper, text manager, ect?
How many hours are expected of a salaried manager? We know we can't go over 40 with that 1 ft person. Customer service, campus relations, meeting with faculty or administration cant matter any more, you are going to be busy stuck behind a register

Follett staffing model is continuing to eliminate employees and replace with India or temps. There are no BRAINS in Follett leadership. But remember, they will get their bonus each year they continue to cut employees, until there are none left to cut.

An announcement went out October 12th that on October 11th the roles of team member I and II would be combined to team member and all derivations of team lead save two specializations would be combined into a single title, team lead. The ugly R word was mentioned (redundancies) but it is nice that notification for a reclassification that was carried out on a Sunday was announced Monday. Come to think of it, Hitler had a habit of invasions on Sundays because most all embassies were closed on Sundays. Nothing to draw from this save your concerns have born the start of a bitter fruit.

I can tell you years ago working in retail for another company that went bankrupt. One of the first things I started doing was bringing in people from Tempe agencies. What We did was train them enough so that they were familiar with opening closing security passcodes whatever. Within a matter of a few weeks they for filed bankruptcy and these people took over. They have the keys and security and everything else and then they brought in more temps as well as some of us could stay on to help sell off the product Or we could walk out the door that day. They had a whole team of people coming in. Very bizarre times but not unusual. I just need to find another job for just a short while. I will be retiring soon and obviously not with Follett.

@4swk+17exVYuH it gets worse; it was 12 years, in increasing levels of responsibility and authority with actual profitability and measured decrease in overhead with great customer service and letters of praise from the institutions. But in over a year spent searching that story is answered with silence. Everywhere it's just silence.

Employers hire people who make a difference. How did you impact your store? What processes did you improve and what was the net result. Were you able to run the store with fewer people and not experience a dip in revenue? Were you able to increase text adoptions? How did you reach out to the campus? Objectively look at what you did for the store and your campus. Measure it. That goes on your resume.
If you feel your computer skills have fallen behind, fix it.
Know your worth.

That being said, also know you were hired after follett ended 25, 20, 15 year long careers without severance, in many cases, so they could hire people who would work for less. It's what they do. You joined a terrible company when they were becoming more terrible.
In addition to understanding what you did to help your store and putting it on your resume, research the company who is offering you a job. Glassdoor, the layoff are two sites. Understanding the company you're trusting with the next 7-10 years of your career is essential.

I was told I could have a PT ASM when last year I could barely have any employees. Suffice it to say my sales are horrible compared to LY. Something doesn’t add up. Why do I get an ASM now amidst a downturn?

I truly think you're underestimating yourself. Most employers will see 7 years on a resume and automatically think that this person is loyal. Nobody wants to hires job hoppers. The fact that you put in 7 years means a lot.

I’m really sorry that happened to you both. It’s a horrible thing. I’m still here but not much longer one way or the other.

Yep; seven years. I'd be out but the career apparently leaves you with zero marketable skills which is no one's fault but mine. Right there with you in bitterness. Hang in there, really.

Troll? Really? They got the shaft during COViD and they are trying to warn people that this is still a business and everyone is expendable. Truth does not equal troll.

Troll? If that's you want to call me, then fine. I am a disgruntled former Follett employee who totally got shafted during this COVID pandemic. I was let go while other people with less seniority than me are still there. You really want to know how I feel? I gave my heart and soul to that company. I'm not mad at you, I'm mad at what they're doing to you. Get out while the going is good, don't be bitter like me. At the end of the day you're just another pawn on the chess board.

Cry me a river. I think it's a little late in the game to be scared about your job, don't you think? One, you should have seen this coming, and two you should have been proactive six months ago when COVID first hit. The only person you should be blaming is yourself for trying to write out the storm. Hope you can swim.

That’s right, put down people scared for their job. Not enough sick people to pick on today?

I'm reading nothing but complaining, whining. and bickering. Y'all sound like your prisoners chained to your cell. Either sh– or get off the pot, that simple. The company is on life support, quit acting like it's going to get better.

Staffing is based on making a profit so the leadership can get their price and maybe increase the stock price for themselves and the family. Do you get company stock like them? Follett abuses their full time employees.

Again, we have people who have NEVER worked in our stores making decisions about our staffing and telling us what we can get done and with how much help. Expectations aren’t going to change, tasks will not be reduced, just work your 80 hours, it’s not that hard.

Not surprising given how things are going but wow is this going to s—. At this point I’d hope for a layoff over another pay cut and no staff again

My r.m. hasn't given any details but she did warn us all on our con call to get all our paperwork caught up while we have the chance, do as much inventory prep you can, if you are a store doing inventory, and so on because there are going to be DRASTIC staffing cuts.
Might be a good idea to use up some vacation time asap!
