@7cpy+1qPBxb7P Su-k it up.You tried to kiss a-s and side with the company, thinking it would benefit you and make you look good in management eyes. You must not be employed in stst for very long otherwise you wouldn't have trusted management.

I live next to a union boss. Wow, does he seem to have cash for anything and everything. His house has been getting multiple $20K projects worked. You might want to run for that position and collect yourself some dues from the rest.

Greedy union with an opportunity to use hapless sheep to reap their dues vs
mismanaged company using underpaid workers to fill its pockets. Jokers to the left. Clowns to the right.

@7vgv+1qPBxb7P does any expect good faith negotiations where an existing air of mistrust led to a union vote

Angry at the whole thing they asked for trust and 180 odd people including myself gave it to them with a no vote just to be disregarded and discarded going by the ICD feedback. I should have known better. Maybe legally they cant, if thats the case communicate that but what other choice is there now but to join the union?

@4sua+1qPBxb7P BoD has had the option to cut the dividend just as WD did, but that results in a hit to the stock price and executive and BoD compensation

I don't think you will find anyone to disagree. However the blame also needs to be focused on the greedy shareholders who insist on sustained dividend at all costs. The company didn't need all these austerity measures when the dividend did not exist or were at low levels. That dividend permanently changed the culture of Seagate.

should not have been a need to unionize, so continuity planning, capacity realignment, etc. is the result poor leadership at a cost to employees & shareholders

Post before this is correct. It's called business continuity planning. You may see movement on the NRM expansion soon. The good news for Springtown is that it's extremely expensive to operate in Minnesota due to being one of the highest tax environments in the nation. So, Springtown is going to be safe unless a strike or shut down happens.

I think you guys are missing the point about the NRM fab. If STST workers become unionized and go on strike, the inevitable backup plan is the new fab. If I'm CEO, I'm hedging the union by equipping that fab with tools the day a union moves in. Yes capital will be involved but a shutdown for even one week will cost the company a big amount anyway. If strikes continue, I shut down STST and move everything to NRM. The wildcard might be how much the govt is willing to subsidize the company during the strike. There is also the chance NRM becomes unionized.

Springtown has little or nothing to worry about concerning NRM. At NRM our problems are first and foremost all staffing related. The toxic work culture in Wafer chases new Engineer’s out at shocking rates along with an aging Technician Team…. Well you get the picture. Good Luck Springtown Workers! I’m guessing Heavy D is face down crying in his pillow, poor little guy.

@1oqv+1qPBxb7P The new fab in Nrm was started and mothballed long before a union was even mentioned in STST.

@1nzq+1qPBxb7P...Striking is the best power a union can have.If management try and come down hard on people with warnings etc. then there are two options which operators can take ,they are strike or work to rule.Work to rule us the best option for when it's busy. You might have worked in worse places or for worse people but for a majority of people in here the company and management is the worst they've ever worked for.Thats why the union is here.

a select group of specialized skills, say within engineering, may opt for representation, thus management rewards them with stock and salary Imagine a small group within engineering with representation

A bit dissappointed to be honest. Union didnt sell it to me in the meetings, just a sales pitch, they have no real power other than to strike, i have one income coming into the house with a family to feed. The only thing that influenced my decision is the day to day, I think the manufacturing specialist landscape is going to change substantially. Breaks, sick, holidays, zero discretion, potential pay negotiations kicked down the line. Ive worked in worse places to be honest, under worse management. Maybe nothing will change but it has the potential to do so and if it does you reap what you sow.

I worked under a union for 4 years. Not a fan. They collected a big fee from my check and didn't help my wage at all. Nothing I could do to work harder and get rewarded for it. I got the same raise as dead beats did. So now, you will all get the same negotiated amount no matter how much you contribute or how hard you work. Then later on I worked as a non-union "manager" in a union manufacturing plant. I wasn't able to touch anything without getting written up. I spend a lot of time just waiting for a union employee to complete work at a snail pace and take weeks to do something I could have gotten done in an hour if allowed too. I got so bored or the ridiculous rules and idle time that I quit. I hope your experiences will be better than mine.

@1oqv+1qPBxb7P you think ? Well why is STST supposed to ramp up again very shortly I wonder what happened? Again springtown is heavily funded by government grants nowhere can do it better or cheaper if they could it would have left years ago...

@izm+1qPBxb7P ms2's actually take home roughly £27k for working 24/7 12hr shifts. Great money ? I don't agree. They actually spend 10 hours per shift on the production line and deserve their breaks. There not the ones cueing outside the canteen waiting for it to open after sauntering down from upon high. Or spending 30 mins in the clean room for a handover.

As for a slice of the pie Most MS's can't afford to do shares as it will take them below minimum wage after deductions. As for a bonus don't make me laugh.

Moves and targets are and always will be part of production and I think you'll find MS's in STST have always met and exceeded these even after their numbers have been reduced. Disciplinary warnings are already handed out like sweets at Christmas but now manager's will be scrutinised for fairness and impartiality. MS's will have proper representation.

You say 'The union will go to STST and they will be told the MSs are overpaid'. Well guess what the MS's are the union!

'The good times are over.
Its a simple job. They push buttons. They are not specialists. Its an easy job. They Think they kept the company afloat during covid'

It's attitudes like this that have drove MS's to seek representation and yes it was MS's that kept the company afloat during covid. Not some desk jockey with mouse mover running on their remote desktop while sipping pims in their blow up hot tub under their newly built pergola.

Oh and MS's are not alone ! More unionised workers are seeking recognition due to toxic mismanagement !

Well the union probably won't get very far now that there is a nearly completed fab sitting in mothballs at NRM. There is nothing in the way of pulling stakes and moving all production to that fab.

@izm+1qPBxb7P spoken like someone who has likely not worked a in a factory. If management and HR address employee concerns with empathy, honesty and respect, representation is seldom necessary, but here we are.

Delusional MSs today talking about getting a slice of the pie. One comment was that they will soon be on 50k.
Heres a few facts..
A MS is now on over 35k. Great money.
They get at least 6 breaks per shift. How many hours do they actually spend in the Fab.
They think they will get bonuses and shares now and massive pay rises.

What will happen is that they can no longer bargain.
The union will go to STST and they will be told the MSs are overpaid, well above the industrial average.
They will have moves targets to make. No more extended breaks, smoke breaks, personnel breaks. 2 15minute breaks and one 25 minute break. No point bringing it up with your UM. That line of negotiation is gone. Get back to work. Su-k it up. Disciplinarys handed out like sweeties at christmas, or like shares to the managers.

The good times are over.
Its a simple job. They push buttons. They are not specialists. Its an easy job. Theythink they kept the company afloat during covid. Ask the ones who left and went to other companies, just how good things are in STST.

Oh and the MSs will not be working from home 1 day per week.

The future is bright, it will be funny.

Up the workers.

The senior management team at Springtown have brought this on themselves. No honesty and transparency for years. Employees have had no voice for years. The management team are so far removed from their employees and live in their glass offices/ bubbles. Even the communication internal to Seagate today was hours after it was on social media. Horrendous. This could have all been avoided
