As of noon central time, October 2, we have not been made aware of any job loss announced to individuals. We are still waiting at a centene facility as we work.

On a related note, New Mexico's current 5-year Medicaid contract ends 6/30/24. A new contract begins 7/1/24 but Centene was NOT selected for renewal. An appeal is planned but its success is in no way guaranteed. I know this has happened recently in CA and perhaps elsewhere. Has Centene been offering severance pay or retention bonuses to keep things going until the end of the contract? If not, I foresee most "jumping ship" sooner than later.

Fun fact- As Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer at CENTENE CORP, Andrew L. Asher made $9,739,210 in total compensation. Of this total $1,007,115 was received as a salary, $2,687,777 was received as a bonus, $0 was received in stock options, $5,999,942 was awarded as stock and $44,376 came from other types of compensation. This information is according to proxy statements filed for the 2022 fiscal year

How are they getting bonuses, when they are laying off employees?????? Make it make sense!

what plans/ teams are to be canned?

Last time in 2021, Austin Superior health plan, whole Care Management TOC team got canned including the Manager. Few others were let go if they had a present PIP or greater than 10 yrs service. They were given severance and no one was able to get a job on a different team. They were told to separate and then start trying. It was a mess. We all still are worried about this.

Do all companies do this? This is ridiculous the way they do it.

BREAKING - Centene Poised for Layoffs Next Week, Documents Reveal
A round of layoffs at St. Louis, Mo .-based Centene is set for Oct. 2 to Oct. 5. The plans are detailed in a 13-page set of confidential HR documents entitled “Supporting December Transitions” obtained by Health Payer Specialist. The last day of work for the fired brigade will be Dec. 8, 2023, the HR documents say.

The instructions in the HR documents offer a “notification meeting script” for those due to lose their jobs, one that suggests the number of firings will be large enough to have an impact on Centene’s bottom line.

In one-on-one meetings with employees who will be fired, the HR workers are instructed to say, “Thank you for meeting with me today. Over the last 18 months Centene has been actively working on its Value Creation Plan. . . We are facing headwinds related to the [Medicaid] redetermination process and the impact of Medicare Advantage Star Ratings.”

The script continues, “that unfortunately results in the elimination of your position. Your termination date will be Dec. 8, 2023.”

In the HR documents, the targeted workers are told they have 45 days from termination to sign or refuse to sign an agreement outlining the terms of severance. Workers will get health coverage and other benefits through Dec. 31, 2023.

The HR documents also include a “save the date” notice telling the HR workers of sessions set for Sept. 27 and 28 on “managing employee reactions” to learning they are losing their jobs.

One directive in the documents says the managers will learn to recognize and deal with the signs of shock, defined as when the worker appears “quiet, tearful, sad, and unresponsive.” Another learning module will tell the managers how to deal with worker anger, seen when a soon-to-be former employee “raises voice, holds aggressive posture, becomes argumentative.”

Still others will likely be in denial, seen when the worker “appears confused, avoiding eye contact.” Far easier for the managers will be those with an air of resignation, one who “appears calm, lacking in emotion.”

The training sessions are meant to make it easier on managers as well as the employees being terminated.

The unlucky employees “will exit the organization with respect, care, and concern,” the directives promise.

Centene did not respond to requests to discuss the pending layoffs.

They just announced 2000 layoffs in California which will be announced in the town hall meeting this Thursday.
The cost of living in California is ridiculous so I hope the severance is not a few weeks of pay or skid row here we come!

I was in the August announcement batch for NY employees! I have been with the health plan for close to 10 years with a lot of internal knowledge of the many departments. My last day will be October 6th this news was a shock as I have a severe medical disability and have built my health and financial security around this company. So far the average tenure of 14 years at the health plan I am at has been now reduced to under 6 years in just the 5 years Centene bought us. The company relies heavily on contract and temporary workers which severely hinders progress no wonder why they grow by acquisitions and not organically. The severance package they give you requires you to work for 2 months after the announcement and gives you 14 weeks of pay in a lump sum however if you decide to leave early even a day early then you get nothing. Even though they have other job roles I would be happy to work and qualified for they do not offer to promote or move you instead the application process is open to all and is competitive unless it is a position above a director then they might slide you in if you play to their tactics. All things considered with my disability my future does not look great and I am having a horrible time trying to find new work. Centene puts Profit Over Morales this is just another reason why For Profit companies should not be allowed to handle Medicaid and Medicare insurance.

So do we wait until October to find out if we’re laid off? Are there changes in place for restructure after the layoffs?

I’m also a victim of the August 2023 layoffs. I don’t know why I was chosen but I have until October and I was told I can apply for another job within the company or take the severance pay.

Victim of August 2023 layoffs here, can confirm. No rhyme or reason it appears, keeping new employees and getting rid of those who have been there longer or so it seems.

Rumors of layoffs in August of 2023

I've not heard anything about layoffs but I attended a meeting right after the executive shuffle announcement and a rvp spent the whole meeting doing damage control over concerns, urging people to not to spend too much energy analyzing this, these changes are logical, par for the course, we change bosses all the time, focus on enjoying the holidays and re-energizing for the new year. Spent the whole 30 minutes like that and didn't discuss actual business. So something is up, but what is anyone's guess.

I hope it doesn’t impact technology. We already have a hard enough time getting work prioritized and done with the teams we have. Can’t imagine trying with even fewer IT associates.

If they rumor is true I bet it would t happen until January/Feb to get past go live activity.

Yes. This site has absolutely had factual information on it before things get announced.

There are people that post on here that truly know what’s happening but they need to be very careful about what they say as this site is monitored.

Of course there are plenty of BS artists here as well. It’s hard to figure out who to believe.

Good old Centene didn't do their normal yearly dump this year. Last big "layoff" aka firing squad was early 2021, so they are due. Replace the older, valuable employees who make a decent living after a decade or more. That was MFN's strategy although he was older than any of us who were canned. I have another job, pay is about the same, bonuses are much better. Do I work a lot of extra hours? Yep, just like at Centene. Are the people much more delightful? Nope, just a mix of people, like anywhere else. Good luck and don't wish for a layoff. It's not a magic thing that will make your life better, trust me.

Look around…normal companies don’t have the turnover that this one has since the new leadership and CEO London came into power. The new strategy is not mass lay offs.. it’s going through systematically looking at any employee who has been at the company for a while and is over 40 who is making more than market… and then making up some story about ‘restructuring’ as a result of value creation. This new organization and CEO and her team do not care about performance … all they care about MONEY and BOTTOM LINE….so that new investor group and hedge fund Politan is happy and is getting their return on investment. These decisions for “lay offs” are not based on long term success.. they are based on how many employees can they “phase out” and not replace or replace with someone who is much cheaper and less experienced in the name of value creation. Nobody is safe.. not even the directors/sr. directors/staff VP/VP/Regional VP/ senior executives….just look around…

@1gcw, I can. In Feb 2021 someone leaked the exact layoff date ten days before it happened. I’ve dodged that particular bullet, some of my colleagues weren’t that lucky, but we were all prepared thanks to the info shared here.
It seems to me you’ve just stumbled upon this site, so let me be clear - it’s not always that accurate (take things written here with agrain of salt), but if you stay long enough you would be surprised to see how much helpful it can be.

Is there anyone here that confirm that this particular website had provided them with accurate (not speculative) information regarding a layoff BEFORE it happened?? I'll wait. All companies have layoffs. Life in general has no certainly, so why worry and make things miserable for yourself?
