Thread regarding Pearson PLC layoffs

Has the new leadership lost the employee base already?

The unhappiness on the managers call this week was evident.

In my seven years / three ceos I’ve seen plenty of BS and bad leaders but the current combination is the most patronizing yet.

The company is f—cked.

@4gt+1jmqj3gph Omar hasn’t been here for years, and I don’t remember him making too much noise about anyone being valuable - it’s very ironic when you think about his background though.

They’re all petrified that DJT and the looney toons will take aim at wokeness and crush their corporate wet dreams.

In another example of how leadership is losing their employee base, after years of telling the LGBT+ and minority employees how valued and appreciated they are, Omar has turned his back on those same groups, by removing all DEI material from the website. Omar is a man of color and has turned on his own. I didn't trust Omar before, but this definitely tells me that he is not trustworthy.

Half of marketing gone by the end of the year, and obviously that’s more than half at the lower levels because you can be sure these leaders will save their own jobs.

So if you're at C1 level, does that mean your position will likely get outsourced? Also, anyone in marketing know what's going to happen there (i.e. layoffs anytime soon)?

Yes. Absolutely. This OKR nonsense being tied to 2025 bonuses is a joke. And I also heard that if you had a monster year in 2023 and there was no chance for hitting goal in 2024, you weren't given a merit increase regardless of circumstance. You have people like SL who couldn't sell a glass of ice water to a man stuck in the desert, making decisions in a vacuum. Clueless, heartless, disconnected, and basically lousy people leading a company desperately in need of some culture and some heart. It's all good though, they'll leave soon and to be replaced by another bozo who has no f'ing clue what we do every day.

I do think that the Executive team is disconnected from the employee base, but I don't think they care. In regard to the comment about having your entire team replaced by cheaper labor, I would predict that they will be dumping more job responsibilities onto other currently employed people. IMHO, I think that the Career Framework project was to examine any redundancies in job skills. With the Career Framework in place, it's going to be much easier for them to lay people off and know what the effect will be. And I keep hearing about people being pushed back into the office again. Personally, I think that the return to the office is just one of the ways that they can get rid of people. It's a lot cleaner on the company if an employee quits because if they were laid off, they would get COBRA, etc.

I was left off the invite (it sounds like many managers were left off) but I just caught up on the recording. Omar and Ali seemed all over the place - unorganized, irritated, and clearly overwhelmed by the honest feedback from managers. Between their attitude and the chaos with the distribution list, I am honestly losing faith in leadership at this point.

Damn I'm below C1... guess I should start taking the side job search seriously now...

I’m a manager but didn’t have a manager’s call this week. What BU are you in?

But - Yes, I do think they’re disconnected from the employee base. I’ve started to disconnect and look for other jobs, since they started talking about the plans to outsource all jobs up to C1 level. I do not want to be here when my entire team is replaced by cheaper labor.
