Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Here's to another great year with Chevron!

I left my old company three years ago and I never regretted it. I don't know why so many people complain about Chevron. My experience has been nothing but positive. Other than some layoffs that keep bringing me back here, everything in my work life has improved. Hopefully, that continues to be true this year as well.

You da man, @4dmf. My observations while we were in the office, was people eating breakfast on company time until 9, then a meeting, then Starbucks to discuss where to go to lunch, then extended lunch (11-2) to complain about your boss and co-workers, then maybe a meeting, then Starbucks to discuss spouses, kids, how expensive junior's private school is, upcoming vacations, house remodeling, when you expect your next promotion, etc., then go home.

There was huge hysteria when they started weighing food portions in the cafeteria a couple years ago. This board lid up with furious complaints.

I love chevron because I get a full time paycheck for working about an hour a day.

I am told every year that people are the most valuable resource in the company! It has to be true because they said it and therefore who wouldn’t want to work for this company and find it complete joy to work every day for such a caring company! Don’t you just get goosebumps with the extreme anticipation of being part of something really special! Hey, we are providing energy to the world!!! Love you all!

Periodic Layoff's have been very common in the O&G industry for many decades, not just the last few years, are all of you new hires?

OP must have worked at a smaller company. Large multi-nationals always look ‘safe’ and ‘stable’ on the surface, but MW’s long-range plan is to make each BU and function accountable, with the idea that in about 10 years the company will be split into several smaller companies (or the successful ones spun off), like Marathon did, or seriously downsized (like we saw with HR being outsourced, IT is next). This is the grand ‘exit plan’. Chevron has no strategy to transform and survive in the non-fossil-fuel world.

Depends what function you're in. If you work in IT or HR Chevron is terrible compared to other companies.

A huge problem is Chevron doesn't value its employees. The layoffs like this last one where catastrophic for many. Its destroyed morale and any of the good ways we used to work. There is very little job security anymore here as MW lays off often. We'll see how this year goes but the past couple have been brutal and not due to the pandemic.
