Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Severance Package

I'm hearing it could be 2 or 3 weeks per year of service.

TBD

Trying to get around that policy by doing it BU by BU sounds like a big lawsuit waiting to happen

SEVERANCE

CVX DOES have a severance policy, due to be renewed 12/31/2024. HOWEVER, it applies when there is a "company-wide effort" like Transformation. Intentionally, the current effort is being implemented in a function-by-function and BU-by-BU method - to circumvent policy applicability and avoid paying workforce. So, once again, MK et. al. are being quite devious.

Only exception where severance might be given is a state or national law or if worker has a 'legitimate' reason to stay (e.g., caregiver to elder family, child custody condition, etc.). Otherwise, it is "cockroach capital" for you!

Have you considered renting out versus selling? If you sell and want to come back, it might be very difficult to do so with how fast housing prices raise in California and also the rates su-k bad right now.

Shady, indeed.

If I do move to Houston, what is the time requirement for me to remain in Houston before quitting CVX and moving back to the Bay Area (with CVX footing the bill)? I recall it being two years. Does anyone know?

Also, what kind of assistance does the company provide with selling our home in the Bay Area? Does the company buy it from us or do we have to find a buyer? Is there any assistance to fix issues when putting the home on the market?

Can someone who went through the 2022 “voluntary” move to Houston chime in?

Thanks

It seems a way they’re getting out of providing severance packages is to relocate your job to one of the major hubs and if you don’t move they take it as a resignation (atleast that’s what they’re doing for SRamon), such a shady way of getting around it. The question I have is can they do that if your jobs moves overseas?

2 weeks is standard. No need for anything "enhanced" like in 2020.

There are quite a few who frequent this site that they will be getting off the books for sure, it's so obvious.

Chevron prefers to layoff people at the holidays and get them off the books by December 31st

Dude it has already been announced in some areas. Just ask around.

@jgj+ is correct, they will be cutting people fairly shortly, from what I heard from a reliable source. They are trying to avoid doing it all at once for some reason.

There is no corp standard in the US. For years with layoffs there is a SESP approved for US payroll that year. On the HR site, for example, you can review the 2023 SESP and the 2024 SESP.

@jgj+1v1z27au Doesn't know what they are talking about. Standard US policy is posted on HR, 2 weeks per year. No way they are "firing" people by Thanksgiving. I'm guessing they will notify shortly of a ROM next year where people will have to re-apply for a job.

There is no company policy but there are legal requirements in some countries (for locals on that payroll). Management decides in each country what, if anything, to offer beyond the legal minimum. Once the names are on the hatchet list, the total cost is summed up and a memo sent for executive endorsement by VP HR plus whoever else has to sign according to DOA. All the BUs have been asked to submit the number ASAP so the total can be known for year-end accounting. Once it is approved, BUs start firing the people on the list. The goal is to get everyone fired by Thanksgiving rather than Christmas. Prepare for an extended holiday at home with the family this year! You can look for work again in January.

It’s usually 2 weeks per year of service with a maximum of 52 weeks. Last time (2020) was 3 weeks per year of service. The purpose of severance is to avoid people suing for wrongful termination. This time there’s probably going to be a built in requirement of some sort to train your replacement in ENGINE in order to get severance. But, anything can happen and we shall see. Good luck to all!

Severance differs between jurisdictions. Some business units have legal minimums.

If they want to offer me, say 3-4 weeks per year of service, I will gladly accept and get out of their way. I’m close to retirement anyway.

Seems like a guess. That is the number from the past 2 layoffs.

It could also be ZERO.
