Thread regarding Avaya layoffs

So many are leaving

New hires are quitting before training ends. Tenured folks are polishing their LinkedIn profiles. Leadership acts shocked, but when you cut benefits, ignore feedback, and promote favorites over merit, what did they expect? This place is a stepping stone now, not a career.

@2qt For real....stop saying this d-mb sh-t. Avaya will be gone before 2030, and that's being generous.

Avaya has been following in Nokia's doom-fated footsteps for years by '...standing on a burning [oil rig] platform'. Unlike Nokia, who acknowledged their situation, Avaya keeps trying to extinguish the flames to buy more time, but has ultimately run out of water ($, innovation, customers, trust). All Avaya does is continue to push workers off the rig to try and save £. Too little, too late.

Big layoffs coming to GSS?

@1we
Having worked with Microsoft in past, I can assure you there is 0% chance that Microsoft buys us.

I have heard the rumors now and in years past.

Here is why it won't happen:

  • Too much debt remains against the company
  • No major new technology in at least 10 years
  • Avaya remained more a physical hardware company. MICROSOFT has no interest in getting into hardware in any meaningful way
  • Microsoft has already stolen Avaya's lunch with Teams.
  • Microsoft has not yet shown a serious interest in Contact Centre. Why would they take that on now?
  • Avaya's remaining customers are NOT Microsoft's market. Customers who still want large on-premise infrastructure.

@1zr Microsoft is not investing in Avaya. No need for it and voice is not a priority for MS, Copilot is.

It's clear this long failing company continues to be hollowed out to 'improve' the balance sheet prior to sale. What isn't clear is who would want this now largely irrelevant relic? Still weighed down by 2 bankruptcy filings, debt, dwindling customer base and never managing consistent periods of profit in the 25-Yrs since it was spun off from Lucent (who clearly knew it was a low/no-growth drag on group performance)... Only a matter of time before Avaya is consigned to the same history as Kodak, Nokia, Blackberry...

What are the chances of Microsoft taking over Avaya in coming months??

It used to be a great place to work, but most of the people I knew are no longer there either. The people make the culture. I also don't understand how the company can function with so few staff left.

There's been some new hires. Just friends of friends and created positions.

Sorry, new hires? Where did you find these? Last one I saw in our part of the business started in 2022, it's been non-stop hiring freeze and relentless layoffs since.

Not sure if it even qualifies as a stepping stone anymore, more like a rickety old log near a raging river.
