Comcast Layoffs - Any Additional News?

Do we think it's everyone from each division? That seems insane.

A director told me today that the "carnage" will mostly be at the higher levels, but I can't confirm.

They are coming after all frontline employees across all regions. If you’re a frontline employee or frontline support and have been previously told your job was safe, it was a lie. They started eliminating thousands of employees in the north east region who were told their jobs were safe. Positions are being outsourced to India and the Philippines.

@43t in the past it was annual bonus, q4 bonus, and healthcare and courtesy services through the severance period. Placement services and resume review.

But no accelerated RSU vest. If not vested by separation date (e.g. late December), it'll never vest. Something like 90 days to exercise already vested options but not really much of a factor unless you're sitting on some ancient options for some reason.

any idea what else is included in the severance, in addition to that 14 weeks (for 1.5 years tenure)? yearly bonus? RSUs vesting? health insurance?

Someone with 1.5 years of tenure told me they got 14 weeks of severance... not bad at all. That means paid until mid-march.

@41t do you know when severance letters went out for Central? Here in West division we were just told that we would get more severance information sometime this week.

I’m in central division and word is all directors and above at the division level are being let go. Severance packages have been delivered. I would think that applies to all the divisions but unsure. When the org chart starts to come together there will be more shedding.

Got word yesterday that HQ is going to hold some info sessions for affected employees soon, and they’ll be sending out invites for those sessions today at 5 PM EST.

Even if folks can’t find a new job that suits their interests or skills by 12/31, the good news is they can still apply for positions within the company even after the severance packages are given out.

The post on ComcastNow say we (employees) will know who is getting laid off Mid-October. My direct leadership revealed the date is Thursday October 16th.

I haven't heard of any additional layoffs; only the organizational updates, which we received three of last Friday. My organization is still awaiting an update or announcement on the allocation of our current duties and responsibilities, which is expected to be announced by the end of this week. For those of us affected, a variety of in-person and virtual seminars are taking place today on topics such as brand building, resume crafting, and interview preparation, among others. These last three months are going to fly by, and with the job openings currently posted, there really aren't many around locally that fit my skill set. Unfortunately, we're not in a position where we can simply pack up and move to another state for an open position.

@18a Saving up money and trimming down all gratuitous expenses for the foreseeable future is the best approach until you land another position, whether within your current organization or elsewhere.

That's incredible news. I was hired at Comcast a year ago for a large pay bump, and more recently promoted for another bump. This will help me shore up my savings for the inevitable job application slog (which I have already started)

Yes, we heard from our SVP during an all-hands meeting a day after the initial announcement last week that everyone impacted will remain in their current roles until the of the year. But zero information yet on how severance will be calculated, or on bonus payouts for Q4 and Annual which happen around February and April of next year, respectively.

I have now heard from a few people around the office that if you are impacted by the divisional restructuring, but you stay until Dec 31st, you will receive your severance and quarterly/annual bonus. Someone even went so far as to say that a Director confirmed it.

I'm still putting the odds of that at around 80-90% personally.

@a4 not much cost centers left, division doesnt have IT since end of last year.

They are in survival mode and drawing lines through names on a spread sheet based on total cost. Nothing else matters.

@OP an update was shared on the internal website called "new company model." It doesn't clarify much. I'm not hopeful that my job will be spared after reading it. The people making these decisions have no clue how some of the individuals lost from this change are going to significantly negatively impact the business. Even my HQ partners understand the divisions cannot afford to lose my team. I truly believe this shift will be the downfall of Comcast.

Confirmed they have eliminated all of division. It is a blood bath. I can’t even imagine what percentage of the company this is.. 10%? 15% ?

At the division we were told it's all division employees except for customer facing some of which will be absorbed into HQ.

That is correct. Middle management is quite bloated.

They are likely aiming to reduce cost centers but wont be getting rid of revenue drivers, for now. You'd think, at least.
