Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Same Names. Same Friends. Rest Are Sidelined.

What’s exhausting is the sense that there’s a permanent inner circle. The same names recommend each other, amplify each other, and open doors for each other while outsiders are quietly ignored. It creates a culture where talent and contribution matter less than who you’re already connected to.

I know atleast one person who is mediocre and has made safely at every layoff round. If QC values this person so much, I can inagine the level of QC employees. Mediocrity abounds.

@421 Q is the opposite of meritocracy. We can start from the top with CEO and his brother. I know at least one at sinior dir lvl and one at principal eng lvl.

It's frustrating to see how often promotions and opportunities seem to align more with who you're related to than what you bring to the table. At the director and above, it’s hard to ignore the number of spouses and siblings in the same org. Sometimes it feels more like a family business than a meritocracy. Anyone else noticing this pattern? Feel free to drop the names or family ties you’ve seen around. Let’s see how deep this goes.

@me Hello Mr Manager, the trade implies manager has to be an exceptional engineer with the deep multidisciplinary tech knowledge in order to plan for resourcing, skills, timescales, provide help and advise to the immediate reports. The Q mo--ns think that management is a skill in itself. The result is obvious and chickens came to roost.

Engineers skill are replaceable , good management and leadership skills are very difficult and are hard to find.
Over the years good managers have been either booted out or left and the sad story that we have to live with these mo--n managers …

@hh hahaha, BOD must put themselves and their cronies forward on the chopping board. Turkeys voting for a Xmas.

If the qcom BOD were serious about conducting an effective layoff, it would focus on the executive level on down. The level of waste and incompetence is truly staggering. Cutting 10% at that level would equate to 25-30% at the Eng level. Unfortunately, won’t happen.

@OP this is what happens when you import 3rd worlders who believe and actively practice things including but not limited to casteism.

That is why you have Sr Directors and VPs who are incompetent. They only know lip service.

When you have an SVP who only cares about who knows you rather than what you have done is the turning point of the company.
