Thread regarding Pearson PLC layoffs

Sales salary

If you’re a sales rep, curious to hear what your base salary is if you don’t mind sharing. Thanks!

I owe pearson a lot!! They hired me for my first sales job and when I left I was making 74k. My new company offered me 177k plus my bonus is 50% of my salary at 100%. To top it off it’s easier to make goal. Honestly I couldn’t believe the offer because I didn’t realize how low the pay was at Pearson. Again I’m thankful to Pearson for giving me my first chance but there are so many better sales positions out there. Not only the pay but the industry and people are more fun and interesting. Pearson is a great place to start but not to have a career at.

The range is wide for a sales rep. Some managers will try and pay the candidate as little as possible while others will fight to get the candidate as much as possible. Most hiring managers will let the candidate think they are fighting for a higher salary for them but most are just playing a game and are doing whatever the Regional VP tells them to say. Once a rep is hired it’s hard to get a raise except for the annual increases so get as much as possible before you accept the position. I’ve seen reps get as little as 50k and as much as 120k. Now that bonuses are based on your salary it appears there is more pressure to keep salaries low or within a certain range.

Pearson HE reps are overworked and underpaid. Sales management is focused on tracking tasks instead of fighting for better sales tools for the reps in the trenches. Get out now if you can!

@OP entry level is $45k-$75k and then it probably goes up about $10k after that based on location and experience. Glassdoor has more salary information. Lots of different types of sales jobs within Pearson so there is a wide range. Never hurts to ask for more but you won’t get it.

My guess is 80k is around the average for a rep with 3-5 years sales experience. Reps in the south may make less and reps in the Northeast and West probably have higher salaries. If you are looking for a high income Education is not the place to be.

So is $80k the average salary for a rep or are most making over that?

They tell everyone they're on the high end - helps justify the lack of salary increase at merit review

Wow! That’s much more than me. $80k. I think there are ppl on my team making less than me too. I was told I’m on the higher end.
