Thread regarding Belk layoffs

Giving hours to new hire seasonal

I’m a longtime part time (now part time flex) associate at Belk and my hours are given to the new seasonal hires. I asked why they would give my hours away and I was told the schedule is all computer generated. I feel this is age discrimination as I am over 70. Some weeks I am cut to zero hours.

It is because you are listed as "Flex". They fit you in when they "Have" too.

@3vhe. They are free to say whatever they feel. Who are you to tell them not to start an argument, Their mom?

Belks twisted reasoning is getting so old. Notice how it always benefits the higher ups and not the associates.

Hours shared by all of us?

So giving a regular associate zero hours and giving a Seasonal 20 hours is sharing? Huh?
Are you a mo--n? What are you talking about? Why would belk want an untrained seasonal associate working instead of someone who is trained? Especially if it’s someone who is over 70, sounds like a clear cut case of age discrimination. Are you a shill?

We all know corporate retail runs on an SET amount of payroll hours (predetermined by corporate heads sitting in their high castle). Simply put, those hours must be shared by all of us. That being the reason new hires get hours and current associates get cut.
No one likes it but that’s how they roll.
If you work corporate retail you know that - so stop trying to create an argument.

Standard practice at most corporations….that’s a good one. And what corporations were those?

Giving hours to seasonal hires is standard practice for most corporations. I have worked for three corporations and they all do this at holiday time.
