How many of you log off for the day and find it difficult to sleep from the stress of the job in operations? How many of you are taking sleep aids? How many of you have to self medicate to relax? How many of you are having difficulty with relationships? If you said yes to one or more of these, you need to ask yourself is the job in claims worth it?
It is my opinion, no job is worth giving up a quality life. I have seen SF take the air out of many sails.

@4ggp. Makes sense but can you honestly say the judgement skills today are just as good as they once were? My opinion is NO WAY.
@3cwy….It wasn’t my job to tell somebody what needed to be done, either. My job was to determine what we owed and pay it. I also don’t personally know how to perform spinal surgery, but I paid for some those too.
It’s amazing how much you can do by exercising your brain and some judgement skills.
That's been my life for almost 8 years since they ruined the claims job.

I did pretty well in both Auto Claims and Fire CAT. I’m the first to admit I can’t fix a crushed quarter panel or replace a blown off roof. But since neither of those things was ever required of me, it didn’t matter in the least.

CAT is probably hard work with the crazy hours and such but Claims is not walk in the park with the mandatory OT and the huge mess ECRs create, this is not a contest for who has it worst ....
the point of the OP was that try to live your life and dont let work ruin it for you but instead all I see is bickering from CAT and Claims on who has it worst , WE ALL HAVE IT BAD , what will you do about it ? that is the point.
CAT boy has never put a roof on. More of those who can tell you what to do cause they read it in a book. Real men can do it. Same goes for an auto adjuster who can't do anything to a car except put gas in it. TRUTH!
Is it worth it?
I think anyone that has chosen to stay at State Farm after having the opportunity over the past couple of years to go to any of the multitude of other employers who were hiring....

You’re right…CAT is harder.
We literally have to handle our job and that of in-office too. On top of the handholding we have to do for customers, agents, contractors, and public adjusters…we have to “train” in-office folks on the basic functions of their job. Then when we complain about in-office not knowing how to do their job we are told,”Just handle it. They have 150+ claims.”
Not to mention having to write estimates to rebuild houses with very little help or training…and dealing with angry distraught people who have lost everything.
Then there are the 12 hour days 6 days a week 250 days out of the year.
In-office folks complaining about being micromanaged comes across as a joke.
I’m convinced no one is holding in-office accountable or managing in-office at all.
Frankly, many of you should be happy to have a position because if it were up to me the whole department would be wiped clean.
At the end of the day if you find your job is so unbearable go find something else and stop complaining. The more honest truth is many of you don’t have the skill set or the education to fill other roles inside and outside of State Farm. Rather than take advantage of some type of “free” education paid for by State Farm you come on here and gripe about stress and general bigoted BS.
It’s time to grow up and look in the mirror.
CAT isn't even comparable to those who sit in an office, don't make what you do, and are micromanaged up the wazoo.

I take the good and leave the bad. And yes, there is still some good.
I’m in CAT. There are things I like about it and there things I hate. I don’t like all the handholding I am forced to do nor do I care for many of the managers/section managers etc and their unrealistic standards.
At the end of the day, I have financial goals to keep me motivated. If you’re in CAT and have been for years chances are you are making a nice paycheck and then some. Plus, there is no place out here that will pay me the money I currently make (I’ve been with the company for a little less than a decade) starting out.
Every single job I have had has come with stress and challenges. Every single one of them. I think people need to be realistic about the current world we live in and the opportunities or lack thereof out there right now.
I don’t lose any sleep over this job. I don’t take pills or self-mediate. I work out after work and recently started playing tennis. I’m not here to save the world. All I can do is take it one day at a time.
As for the guy who likes to force feed his right wing talking points on this board, yeah he needs to move on. They need to add a block/ignore feature on this board.
Claims work would be easier if the team environment would go away. Team environment allows id--ts to excel by fudging the numbers. Then you have id--ts instilling wrong actions in their employees. It's like inbreeding - do it enough, you'll have a town of d-mba$$es.
What gets me is that the company seems to be competing for what is most stressful for claims handlers, dealing with the inherently stressful work that is claims, and dealing with State Farms INSANE data entry / micromanagment / manager expectations.
Usually when people work in stressful environments, the employer seeks to reduce stresses, not add to them.
Half my stresses are silly duplicate data entry so that my manager can have an easier time pulling 100's of reports on what i do to badger me about what drop down i forgot to update, or why i failed to enter x into y ect ect ect.
I feel like half my job is being coached and bullied for pointless data entry that only serves to give data to reports so that a manager can monitor me without monitoring me. Its ridiculous.
But, im seen as a machine in which to produce, and not a human, at state farm, so i get to always do more for less, with more expectations....on top of a job that is extremely stressful without the company stepping in to compete for what is stressing me out most...
Its ok, its only been going on for like, 12 years here at least....so its clear its the plan and not unintentional.

Yes, yes, yes, yes. That’s why I accepted the buyout and retired early. I’m a much happier person 4 years later.
