Thread regarding ViaSat Inc. layoffs

Global Operations is going for 10% of the workforce

Starting with legacy Inmarsat because the notice periods for LI (3 to 6 months depending on grade) is longer than for LV. John D. has asked to sack managers, not just the usual working level colleagues. Ironically, people being axed now are immediately being put on garden leave while the VRP have been requested to work their notice. Only difference in the severance package is the extra month that the VRP got on top of it. So LI VRP got 2 to 4 weeks per year of service plus 1 month but are working their notice period, people being laid off this week lose the extra month but will be paid full salary without working

Someone asking the right questions!
If you work for a USA company but you are like in Netherlands as an international employee… does the said USA company follow their federal law… or the said countries law? What if you are USA citizen employeed at an international site?! 🤔

WRONG

There is no requirement in the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) for severance pay.

So you are lucky to get anything at all

I guess they kept the number below the WARN act threshold or you'd have an additional 60 days. I'd try to negotiate for more. You can't lose anything but a little time. Good luck.

I was let go this morning, 4 weeks money only after 4 years service and medical until 10/31 for me and family... Treated with absolutely no respect at all.

They have clearly run out of money and will give the minimum, required by law now.

I am not taking it personally, its business, but a business that has lost its way and is in a perilous state for sure.

It is rumored that Maverick has aspirations to become the COO of J1mmy and dislikes reporting to a British individual. J@s0n frequently travels internationally, experiences persistent jet lag, and appears to have limited interest in aviation matters. If he were genuinely concerned, he would be aware, as everyone else is, of the substantial challenges associated with implementing the new GX terminal and the XXXX transition, which are further compounded by the lack of allocated resources. Consequently, he would take appropriate measures to address these issues. Instead, JD will likely exploit the challenges to criticize legacy Inmarsat's support models and processes, emphasizing J@s0n's detachment from practical realities. Although unverified, I have heard that one of the key individuals who could have helped mitigating the adverse effects was recently laid off.

Agreed. There's a lot of toxic behavior on this message board for lots of reasons, but as someone who was affected by the layoffs last Nov, it can be a difficult time and someone taxing on your overall well being. There's only a few things that can shake you up in life as much as losing your job, so my heart goes out to anyone affected in the short term and wish you the best in the long term.

They canned plenty of managers last Nov. I know. I was one of them. Doing fine now though. You guys will get back on your feet, dont let it hit you personally
