A colleague left his job a long time ago and still hasn't been replaced. It's a bit strange that it takes so long for Chevron to fill that position again. I don't know if the problem is in (in)efficient recruiting strategies or maybe it's something else. I can't believe that they still can't find an adequate replacement.

If you're in IT, it's because CVX pays 1/2 of what you could make elsewhere.
If you're in a BU, they're likely just giving everyone more work.
The company is not backfilling vacant positions. They are backfilling the holes left by vacated positions. Few jobs and less managerial hierarchy is the new direction in Chevron.
@3ljj, that’s not Kook-Aid, it’s p!ss they would like you to swallow. They better start filling those positions if they want more work done around here. I already have a full plate and the company is not compensating me extra to do more.
I don’t drink the Kool Aid anymore! I bathe in it! I find it necessary to wash all common sense away so I can actually try to understand the thought processes!
Staffing shortages are plaguing the entire industry. Thus the recently announced golden handcuffs awards. There will be more ahead to entice people to stay.
By continuing my employment, the company confirmed they were ok paying me for the amount of work I produced. If they want to increase the amount of work produced then we can negotiate a new salary.
@3ljj, so you mean they want the existing employees to be productive and actually work and provide the service that they are being paid to do? OMG, can't have that, That's crazy talk, lmao!
Hard to believe so many many vacancies….repeated postings…..yet no hiring. Bottom line they want existing team to pick up slack w/o pay, perks, or promotion. Stop drinking the Kool-Aid.
OP, your colleague was lucky to leave before being laid off. Clearly his/her position was meaningless.
Unfilled positions is screaming message that those positions are unnecessary. Eventually they'll just disappear off the org chart.
Selective vacancy - no desire/need to fill??
Cutting costs and seeing if everyone will pick up the work.
Ask you supervisor.
Lower cost for the company to just split up the job responsibilities and make those remaining do more without promos, contributing to burn out and the death spiral continues for those who stay
