Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Texas Warn notice

700 will be out of Houston office starting Oct 23, that is R3 layoffs, that is about 30% layoff rate. What would be the R4 numbers?

If you guys are correct, 700 cut out of 4500 (15%), that is not a “bad” cut by historical standards. XOM does almost that in a normal year of forced rank trimming. If the cuts are really this shallow, then the big question is will we be here again next year after oil prices stay historically low for longer.

I still don't see the Chevron information on the Texas Warn Notice site. It should be in that excel spreadsheet they posted right?

Total Houston workforce was under 4500 prior to March 2020, so even at 15% cut, we are talking under 700 [including all rounds].

It’s R3 and R4. The number of positions being completely eliminated is already known. Oct 23 is when selections are complete. Hence the WARN for that date. If you’re expecting another WARN, you’ll be waiting 4 years for the next major lay-off.

EOI are included in WARN numbers, as they are treated the same as left standing in government reporting (laid off for lack of work), entitled the same after employment government services. Yes WARN numbers do not need to be precise, but they are required to reflect best estimates at filing, and I would expect them to be within a few percent. One third including EOI in R3 would have been my guess, and the same for R4 even with significantly fewer EOI.

“700 in Houston is for both R3 and R4”... nonsense! That was the R3 warn. The only caveat is we don’t know how many on the Houston HR payroll do not physically work in Houston. Warn notices are not required by the government to be precise, and I suspect large companies over-file numbers to be on the safe side. Take all this discussion with a grain of salt (and maybe a table spoon). Good luck in the coming week folks... may the odds be forever in your favor!

If they made as many positions as possible open to both San Ramon, Houston, or all locations, it seems unlikely they could even provide an accurate number for how many layoffs would ultimately occur in either city until the dust settles.

I’m still confused on how we were actually capable of providing an official number to the government. On every call, every Exec, RM, and every other HR person indicated that they didn’t know the exact number of reductions and didn’t even have enough info to provide an educated guess. Did they really know and just not want to tell us? #sarcasm I guess we’ll be left in the dark on wether 700 is all of them or just R3.

Well, if the global work force reduction in total is say 10% [excluding the EOIs] that makes about 4000 to 4500 in total, almost 28000 Chevron workforce is in the US, so there got to be about 2000 overall in US from R4 [ give and take +_ 100].

That 700 cannot be Houston, other BUs in different locations do not have as much people, I would say at least 1200 would be in R4 from Houston office, the rest will come from Midland, SJV, Covington, and downstream/bay area, san Ramon.

30 minutes late everyday? How do you know they are not “working from home” an addition 3-4 hours a night? Maybe they appear late to you but it’s because of children’s schedules. Everyone knows Chevron works with its employees on work/life balance!

LOL @ 30 min late everyday. You sit there taking count of everyone's hours? Take a chill pill buddy you're probably going to be laid off for working your full Friday. Who cares how many hours you work as long as you're getting work done.

You may want to store this link and check it regularly (https://www.twc.texas.gov/businesses/worker-adjustment-and-retraining-notification-warn-notices). You will see details per company, county, city and number of forecasted layoffs.

This will show how transparent Chevron is and the real numbers.

Round 4 count? North of 1,500 EASILY. Consider the huge amount of redundancies in CBRES, PRC, IT, Downstream and of course our dear HR friends.

And remember something, if you are an incumbent AND a 2 and above you have about 50% chance of keeping your job. This is the time when the R4's will be rebuilding their power structures. Don't be that naive and pretend that something different is happening. If you are competing with your boss for the same position....oh!

The Round 4 Warn email went out today. I don’t see any details listed on the Texas Warn site for Chevron for 2020. Is there a delay? Does anybody know what number they are reporting?

The 700 headcount axing is only for Houston, TX in Round 3 and roughly represents a 30% reduction for this group. The R3 folks are principally supervisor level employees. This headcount doesn’t include Louisiana, California, other locations outside of Texas. The number doesn’t count the folks who elected to EOI. Just wait until the WARN Notice comes out for the rank and file employees in Round 4. The roughly 30% headcount for this group will be high. Good luck to those who are left standing. The employment panorama out there is dismal and won’t improve for 2 years at best.

I don’t see any WARN notices for Chevron on the website yet. I think they have to wait until all numbers are finalized within the company?

Remember that there are some R3 people who were able to also post in R4 and they’ll be included in the R4 numbers.
