Does Cigna actually enforce their non-compete if you leave for a competitor?

@1zrb anyone with company stock gets them
@3jgk+1tRCv6fz This is true, I’ve spoke to a VP at Robert Half who told me that they consider Cigna employees a red flag BUT this is mostly when they have been with the company for 5+ years because is says something about the person that they survived that long. Also a recruiter from United Heathcare said Cigna is is “concerning” and needs a very close look. These are people I went to high school with I’ve reached out to because I’m having a hard time getting interviews. Idk it’s all such a shame, good luck out there folks.
In my experience since joining Cigna at only a Band 2, when I apply for other jobs to get out of here… none of the other big competitors will even look at my resume because I am currently at Cigna . I’m not sure if that is because they think we all su-k or because there is some unsaid rule or deal to not interview employees from Cigna. I’ve never had this issue in my entire working life which is almost 30 years.
Band 4 here. Right before leaving I received an email from someone in the Non-Compete department reminding me “of the non-competitive agreements I signed” and “the intimate knowledge I have about the company”.
I checked all the documents I signed and there was no such thing. I ignored the email. I figured acknowledging it may mean agreeing.
I certainly was not compensated as someone with intimate knowledge the company strategy. Please…
So glad I left. My last two weeks were painful. I did not fill out the exit interview survey. On top of everything else you want me to tell you what went wrong? The nerve…
Yes they do was almost fired recently
Probably. They also have agreements with many contract companies to not hire anyone that is currently a Cigna contractor. I have been told this by multiple different contract companies and missed other/better opportunities because of it.
@1zrb. Non competes are illegal in California even if you previously signed one. The courts throw them out as signed under duress.
Right to work has to do with having the right to work without union membership requirements. Not that you have the right to a job no matter what, lol, grown-ups need to be reading the fine print and not some media headline that sounds like it matches your beliefs.
Yes, they do enforce them. Non-competes are currently legal too if reasonable, will hold up in a court of law. I haven’t heard of anyone at Cigna under b7 having to sign them tho
“ If my state is right to work, why should companies be allowed to use non competes.”
Rules for thee, not for me.
Very difficult to enforce, unless Cigna can prove you are bringing and using proprietary information/tools/processes with you. Especially now that FTC has said non competes can’t be enforced. The Supreme Court has destroyed the Chevron Doctrine the FTC might not be able to enforce. But even so, Cigna would be risking wasting lots of lawyer $ to go after you. So if you are band 4 or lower, you can leave for a competitor.
I have heard of it being enforced. Your manager can work with legal to waive it. Leave on good term and speak with your manager bout it.
Did you sign a non compete? If so, I’d speak to a labor attorney for better guidance.
Hopefully the federal government can outlaw them. If my state is right to work, why should companies be allowed to use non competes.
