Thread regarding Corning Inc. layoffs

It’s starting… again…

Shared Services here… a bunch of us were told today that we have 4 weeks to train our replacements. “Restructuring.” Really… 4 weeks to find a different role in Corning or get the boot and (hopefully) find something elsewhere. Anyone else? :(

I highly enjoy my job at Corning, some of the politics not so much. After working my way up to an executive role and seeing the direction it was going, it was either stay with Corning and move to another division outside of NY or stay in NY working for another company. My family and I choose to move with Corning's help, and it was completely worth it for all of us. The writing is on the wall. If it wasn't obvious to others outside of the R&D facility there, you should really start looking elsewhere. Hope this helps anyone that is on the fence.

@51g its the indecisive and incompetent middle management who can’t set clear deliverables/objectives until May that are the problem. Then they come up with bs work for the lower engineers to do to appease their directors who don’t really care what value a project is brining, just so they can tell their bosses objectives were met. It’s like that all the way to the top

@OP Shared Service HR will fail and the id--t that pushed it won't get the big bonus they think she thinks she is entitled to but they will get a big boot in the a-s. How about putting actual EXPERIENCED employees in management roles or listening to employees that have been there for years. Corning is setting itself up for legal troubles with the union. Mark my words. The upper management running HR now are a bunch of entitled arrogant pieces of sh-t that got the job off mommy and daddy not their qualifications. They know nothing about HR other than to a-s kiss the Management. Remember this post, it will happen.

@55p the engineers are gonna be the down fall of Corning. Your statement proves that fact. We deal with it everyday working the production floor. We don't have 100k plus piece of paper hanging in the wall so we are automatically stupid. Yet we can trouble shoot the equipment faster then the engineers. Biggest waste 9f money in Corning is on the amount engineers and middle management they have.

@55p most of the engineers and management walk around SP like they have a stick shoved up their as--s. Arrogant entitled pricks . Not all of us had mommy and daddy hold our hands pay for an expensive degree . Most of them have degrees but lack common sense .

The b-m union folks should worship the engineers and management . Without us you uneducated twats wouldn't be working at this great company . All hail Wendell

@51g the engineers are the lifeblood of the company . Without them the b-m cleaners and trades wouldn't have jobs . Don't be jealous cause you clean the crappers for a living with no education

@3fx same could be said for all the trash engineers at Corning. Ten of them standing around while one is doing all the work. Corning could cut have the engineers and middle management and no one would even notice. Are their lazy production people....absolutely.....and those people should be fired. But in no way is it even close to the over abundance of engineers and middle management who bring nothing to the table.

@4nh it's about time. The Valley has been dying for 24 years.

@4aq most work at SP is contracted, regardless of staff tradesmen. This is a management issue.

More down sizing in valley. Fewer local Corning jobs CFT leaving, HR being out-sourced. Soon there will not be much left

The union prez and vp are the biggest thieves in the union . Sit at the union hall collecting over 100k a year, while the membership slaves away on rotating shifts and layoffs. The union prez even started his own electrical business on the companies dime . These two a$$ clown$ negotiate the worst possible come tract also . I'm sure the company throws them
A cash bonus to get the contract to pass when most vote no on the contract

The trades guys at sp are just as lazy . Most of them walk around or sit in the break rooms all day . Highest paid b-ms in Corning

The cleaners at hq cry and whine all day while they sit on their f@t @ss@s all day in the break room . The trash cans are overflowing , po-p stains all over the toilets . The union workers are uneducated twats . They are all worthless in all of the plants . They work maybe a total of ten minutes a day . We could train a monkey to do their jobs . Waste of space and time with the few brain cells they have

When will people learn, Corning inc su-ks. If you are able to get out then do it. Move to a major city where there are lots of jobs. Corning is a one horse town.

As long as the share holders and executives get their bonuses that is all that matters. I hear the head of HR believes everyone in the valley is overpaid so this aligns from what I hear.
