Thread regarding Seagate Technology Inc. layoffs

The damage can't be undone

In my opinion, the damage caused by both past and current leadership has reached a point where it's too much to fix. Bad decisions and weak leadership have left deep, lasting scars, some of which are beyond repair. I genuinely believe that the best option for all of us is to leave this place before it's too late.

@3col - Well Dave, people asked about how this company treats workers and people are here to answer them. So you either want us to lie to them or not say anything. Both options are intolerable. I am not going to lie to people who are here to find out what this company is like to work for. BTW, younger people are on a 3 yr rotation anyway and unless you take steps to remedy this, you will keep having turnover with staff you hope will design your 100T drive someday.

I did a part time MBA online for 5 years while working, even though I already had a PhD and Master in Physics. It was a nice learning time and kept me from getting low. These 5 years I worked a lot for the company and learned something.
I got it also mostly reimbursed.

I reccomend to learn. It is a useful and paid hobby.

Instead of preaching to everyone else about leaving, why not just move on yourself? Just asking.

It’s a paycheck. No more. No less. Loyalty was loss with the many layoffs and the Covid job or jab requirement. It’s 40 hours work for 40 hours pay.

Remember back in 2016 when they got those healthy tax cuts/credits? How much of that do you think trickled down to the workers? Don't think too hard.

could have paused the dividend long ago to reinvest in the company

They have been slowly sc--wing those that have dedicated their lives to this company for years. That is what happens when a company continues to increase its dividend even when the underlying cash flow does not support it.

I’m wondering when they will eliminate the severance package and totally sc--w those of us that have dedicated our working careers to this company.

I can't disagree it's best for anyone under say 45 and less than 15 years of service to find a job with a better company. Most are better. Nobody I know who has done this has any regret or desire to return to Seagate's nonsense. At that age you still have plenty of time time to learn and master a new industry, product, and process and get promotions. I have a twinge of envy for people I know who got laid off with a max package and found a better job at a new company where they are happy and better treated. Some of them over 50. For over 50 like me, I fully expect and anticipate Seagate doing an age discrimination layoff to me. So, I quiet quit and I'm not expending any extra life energy on this company then the minimum needed to keep collecting a paycheck. I'm also hoping for that max package at some point and to try something different. Make sure you prioritize investing any extra career time in your own training and education and not just give extra to the company and the unethical people who run it. That's my advice.
