Team Lead Step Down

I've heard so much of both yes and no - does anyone know if a TL can step down within their own department as long as there's a open position? (Ex: bakery lead to cake decorator).

@2lsz+1buKji5s I am 2uwu+1buKji5s ...I have been here 30 years. Most likely far more than you. I do my job and do it well. You will be long gone before I am. You are the lazy one who will not do your lead job and train people. You have other train so you can run around kissing a managers hiney. Pretending you actually do any work at all. I do help new people a lot. I help them when they ask and when I see them doing something wrong. BUT it is not my job to tell them what to do THAT is your job. I have no authority to tell someone else what to do. And I refuse to do so. That is your job !! When I do correct someone it is to help them stay out of trouble. Do your job and train people or do you not know how to do the job ? In that case I guess I will have to train them.

@2ztg+1buKji5s.... amen. For 40 years, any ja----s I've ever had trouble with, was gone out the building way before me. Without fail. It's predictable.

I stepped down as a produce lead and had to train 8 leads in 2 years after being the lead for 12 years. The blonde bomber manager I had told me it wasn't fair that I was a lead for so long and it didn't give anyone else a chance to move up in the company. I said fine. I stepped down 2 weeks later and she was fired 6 months later for making horrible decisions like this. The only thing I told her was that "I'll be here long after you're forgotten about" Well, I got the last laugh.

: @2uwu+1buKji5s. That’s the bs I’m talking about and if you stepped down I wouldn’t let you anywhere near your old department. Your peers are supposed to help train new people, not just team leads and managers. That’s why training has been broken ever since they got rid of the “best practice associate.” If you do your part to help train newbies, they in turn get to pick up more the of the work, making less work you have to do. But people with your mentality would rather play victims your whole life. Instead of using logic, you use your emotional baggage to make decisions.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I was able to step down and accept the decorator position and am looking forward to some relief from the constant stress!

IT IS NOT THE JOB OF HOURLIES TO TRAIN NEW PEOPLE !!! If a teamlead stays in the same area after stepping down it IS NOT their job to train new people. Over the years I have seen so many managers and leads blow off their own job by strapping an already over worked person with a newbie to train. Leads and Managers quit walking around with your thumbs in your noses and do your own dag gone jobs !!. It is your job to train people and make sure they have the tools they need to do their jobs.

If I was going to be the new lead of an area and the old lead wanted to stay in the department, I’d have a conversation with them about teamwork. Because I can guarantee the old lead will use the mentality of “I’m no longer the lead” excuse for just about any problems. Including the unwillingness to train new people.

You can. They will make some sort of excuse on why they won't though.

The former lead does not "always" cause problems. I stepped down into the same department. Trust me, there are no issues. In fact, in the last eight years, I've seen several team leads step down or have been put down and only one caused problems. She caused problems wherever she was to begin with.
Stop generalizing.

I did it. The relief of stress is all that matters. If the new TL does anything so bad, they will hang themselves without any help from me or you.

They 100% can. Most clubs dont like to do it though because of the amount of people issues it tends to cause. The former lead always seems to find a way to overstep and cause problems.
