Empathy Screen Savers

Anyone else absolutely disgusted at the gall of Elevance sending a screen saver update touting the importance of empathy and skill building session for it in the same week that 10% of the company gets RIF'd?

The screensavers bring to mind the role of the telescreens in the novel Nineteen Eighty-Four.

I agree but wonder how many 'good employees' will remain after many 'good employees' leave for other jobs, become demotivated, retire, or are RIF'ed? No shade on those of us hanging in there, but I don't have the same attitude/energy compared to a year ago and I see the same thing with my coworkers. We are all focused on doing enough to not get fired but that isn't the same as having job enthusiasm!

They sent a company wide required "respect in the workplace" training two days before a large rif.

Stop thinking this is anything but a machine. A machine that's broken in multiple places with a spokesperson who no one will tell the actual truth to so there's plausible deniability.

This is calculated risk. It's the same as when car companies discover flaws. They evaluate damanage from law suits and use that to determine how risky they can be with delaying fixes. We're just airing on the side of huge risk right now to gain stock price. The risk in the labor force. This time next year, they'll be wishing they hadn't went this hard. If you can survive, i bet the culture will be much different when they need good employees to save them.

I refuse to read the screensavers in protest of not being allowed to choose a personal one. Haven't read one in almost 2 decades.

I think the screen savers are a form of punishment - If you're not pounding away on your keyboard like a stupid monkey (or a top 40 artist today), and you let your screen saver kick in, then they punish you with mind-numbing propaganda.

Thanks for pointing this out. Yes I thought it was Supreme Irony but didn't want to say anything at work. It is so consistent -- WE have to do more with less so the top executives can have literally tens of millions of dollars. We are working our tails off and they have discretionary PTO. I used to be able to ignore it and just do my job but these different reminders of hypocrisy make my stomach turn.

When I worked there, I used to wait for new screensavers to be pushed then delete them all from the directory. The result: TA DA....NO PROPAGANDA!

Oh, are we supposed to pay attention to their pushed screen saver messaging? I never do... LOL!!!
