Thread regarding DXC Technology layoffs

thoughts of DXC 6 months after exiting

I made the decision to exit DXC last year and managed to get a redundancy after 5 years.
Reflecting on the company from a distance here are my hot takes.

  • the ever present threat of WFR hanging over the heads of the staff (especially onshore employees in high cost locations) is not a normal or healthy way to manage people.
  • the lack of clarity of purpose and internal disconnect between teams and business units from the outside looks like there really is no plan for the org beyond the next financial quarter. In my time there I didn't think about the never ending reorgs the constant buying of companies and the desperate struggle to try and be ''digital'' (whatever that means)......its only from a distance that you see this for what it is.....barely managed chaos.
  • the lack of salary reviews and regular increases is not how the IT industry outside DXC operates
  • many organisations have still never heard of ''DXC" and when I have interviewed I have to explain that its the ''old'' csc/hp. potential employers are only interested in your skills they will not take you onboard based on the ''name and reputation'' of DXC as it doesn't have one!

6 months beyond DXC and I am employed, earning more income and actually enjoy my work and feel that I can make a difference. My strong advice is take control, get a WFR (beg if you have to) and get out and progress with your career. The longer you stay at DXC the harder it will be to adjust to normal life on the outside.

Yep absolutely. It's embarrassing. What's also embarrassing is that our current logo for corporate presentations just says "new DXC". What the....

You say you were fired me after two months , the word fired is normally for cause. because you lied on your resume or you couldn't perform the job you were hired for.

What are you talking about? I just told you that the company i left DXC for has fired me after two months and in DXC i was there for 6 years. So it's not all beautiful, especially in this economy and there are a lot of trolls here saying how their life "Changed forever" after leaving DXC...

Please do take common sense and keep in mind to thoroughly investigate a company, it might be worse than DXC or they can fire you quickly in this economy.

To @3xpl+19PkbiyV

DXC treat employees with the mantra "Never give a s—er an even break"

Its horrible to tell you this, but not getting a job after DXC is no-ones fault but your own.

Well here is what happened to me, i got laid off after 2 months after leaving DXC where i was working for 6 years, so yeah there is that.

And now i can't find another job. Just so you know it's not all beautiful roses like people are saying here, a lot of people suffered after leaving a company in the middle of pandemic.

@2yww+19PkbiyV: "Not one attempt at retention has been successful"

In my case, the "retention" offer was to simply match the new salary. Never mind that the new company cover $1500 of health, dental and other insurances. So the offer was a joke; any other company could offer your current salary and you would have a pay rise.

"I have to ask the OP how do you "get a WFR (beg if you have to)"

i was a manager so could re-organise myself out of a role (this took me about 6 months). If you are a single contribuer I acknowledge that it is harder to get WFR. Only advice I could give are as follows:

  • try and get assigned to an account that may run off and when the client exits DXC you will automatically be considered for redeployment
  • let your boss know you are open to a WFR and if it saves someone else's role you are happy to go (you may not be able to control the timing so you'll need to be flexible)....keep reminding your manager you are still keen every 4-6 months
  • if you are in a high cost location and your skills can be offshored try and get onto an account that is renewing or looking for cost savings - let your manager and account people know your skillset can be migrated to low cost centre

Don't forget WFR is a BAU process in DXC and one of the few things it is good at. At regular intervals throughout the year (especially in high cost centres) there will be quotas for exit and snr managers are always on the look out to save costs to offshore if possible......good luck!

I have to ask the OP how do you "get a WFR (beg if you have to)"? As you say many are waiting for a WFR opportunity to come so how can that be influenced? I think it may only be managers who can get themselves WFR'd. At least they are the only ones I have seen manage conveniently to get themselves a WFR package rather than walk away empty handed. I think if a WFR opportunity presented itself in the coming months and year I would apply for it.

I truly can't fathom how broken this company is. My business unit is just a feeding ground for competitors to stock their teams. Over 110 of 260 team members have left since last November! Not one attempt at retention has been successful. Hiring in a hot job market with our reputation is next to impossible. Every project is in dire straits due to attrition with the back office functions stretched so thin, we don't even know what we are forgetting to do. I left without a word said. No exit interview, Nothing. I hope there are parts of the business that are functioning well, but this part is barely on life support.

"many organisations have still never heard of ''DXC" and when I have interviewed I have to explain that its the ''old'' csc/hp."

This is due to the lack of marketing and PR that our management refuses to participate in. When you look at the big four, they invest heavily in PR and marketing in several aspects, such as recruiting, services, and reputation as a business. DXC does not do any of these things. Not even after four whole years. It is so disgraceful that it has come to a point that I have to explain prospecting/promising clients who we are. Even then we are lucky to win their business.
It is one ignorant manager once said in a meeting: "we are the largest standup in the world". That's right, because nobody knows who we are. Pathetic.

I checked out last Friday. Did it feel good? not really, I loved my DXC job but I could no longer afford it - that the honest truth!

I'm so f—ing done with DXC. I hope to get a position somewhere else. With DXC's reputation, it's hard. I want a place where I can make an actual difference.

i forgot to add one more hot take

  • DXC retention policy is to make staff feel they are lucky to be employed and not subject to a surprise WFR, keep their skills specific to their role to prevent movement (and make individuals think they could not do anything else). A key retention strategy is the possibility of WFR and many will stay until they get it. The lack of industry recognised ways of doing work and the poor adoption of new internal systems prevents employees from gaining cutting edge skills that are in demand.

having moved on from DXC it took me a while to realize how institutionalized i had become. The no notice WFR's and abrupt change or structure the buying and selling off of parts of the business and the pretence DXC was an agile organization (I often heard snr managers call DXC the largest start up in the world!!) . All of this become BAU and I accepted that this was how IT must operate....I was very wrong

I've been at HP/CSC/DXC for 15 years. The constant beatings have certainly improved my morale.
