Thread regarding Seagate Technology Inc. layoffs

Mission First People Never!

WWSD?
What would Shugart do?

Seems like the old timers had better character than the leaders of Seagate. 4 days additional leave in CY2024 is an insult.

Leadership has no faith in the employees that even with more off days we will get the job done still.

Business leaders of yesteryears had more character than the leaders we have today.

In 1970, the entire electronics industry was in a severe recession. Hewlett-Packard was not immune, but where other companies were implementing layoffs, Hewlett-Packard implemented the famous “nine-day fortnight” program. Workers were given a 10 percent pay reduction paired with a 10 percent workload reduction. Employees would thus only work nine full days over the course of two workweeks — a “nine-day fortnight.” As Bill Hewlett explained in this company newsletter, “The traditional way of dealing with this would simply be to lay off ten percent of the people. But I don’t feel that would be a very fair way.” Instead, he sought a solution that approached the problem as a team effort, and the collective sacrifice allowed the company to weather the recession without layoffs.

@2yid+1mj6Wkn2: But management is worse. No contributions at all in a tech company.

In shugart most of them are aware of a group of individuals who regularly in the gym, court simply come office to pass the time rather than work, and a select few who eagerly await for package and simply want to make money. When a company is collapsing, one team is only holding individuals and highlighting, "We need people”. Only management is aware of who is needed and not required.

What would Shugart do? He'd put his dog in charge of Seagate over these clowns. RIP Shugart.

employees were pushed out of the "shareholder" equation a long time ago by Boards who ushered in stock based compensation to reward executive performance

You are right.

Stakeholders used to include the employees and the community the business was located in.
