Thread regarding Imperial Oil Limited layoffs

Operator Layoffs?

I'm curious if there has been or will be any layoffs or other sorts of staff reductions among the operations personnel at any of IOL's refineries. It seems that everything I read on this forum and on the ExxonMobil forum applies exclusively to office personnel and nothing is ever mentioned about the process operators.

Are the operators unionized?
Isn't conservative party anti union and pro business?

That would be a dramatic improvement, we would be able to reduce our operating costs and become lot more competitive. One of the challenges that Alberta faces is high operating costs because of expensive operators. Perhaps this crisis is also an opportunity to improve our organization and make it competitive with others by actively innovating and implementing creative solutions. If there is a net migration of people from Alberta, then real estate also might become more affordable like it was 17 years ago, enabling us to become even more competitive. It is time to stop living in the b..m days and tighten our belt to become the leaders again.

All the mid-stream pipelines and Compressor/Pumping stations are remotely operated. Heard some are even operated from down South in the US.

Someone needs to tell upper management how much money they will save if they move the control rooms to India or KL. That will open the gate for the tidal wave.

Operators job won’t be transferred by cheap location people. However, their work will be impacted by automation and digitalization. Everything including implementation of digitization has come so fast due to covid, which rapidly changing everything. Less operators will be required.

Until they can outsource operations to KLTC or BTC you’re safe.
