Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Chapter 11 possibilities?

A decade ago.. I would have never thought it was possible.. now with “Einstein” leading us to a balance sheet destruction, borrow to help Grandma with her dividends.. I cannot help but see this as a possibility.. I’m vested and worried

No Bankruptcy necessary. still plenty of opportunities to chop workforce, Chop salaries, chop benefits and sell assets and the people with the assets.

"I think you are mistaken if you think the stock price has any basis in reality"

Yeah, stock prices are just made up numbers that do not reflect reality. Tell that to the all of the institutions and individuals that own XOM stock. You can really sell all of your shares for say $100/sh today, after all, the price is just a made up number.

If there is one truth about EM, it is that their valuation is in the toilet. How do we know that? Because their market cap as reflected by STOCK PRICE is at an all time low. And the stock price reflects not only today's situation, but what analysists see going forward over the next 3-5 years.

I hope you are not a financial advisor in retirement years.

I think you are mistaken if you think the stock price has any basis in reality. The market today seems to price based on sentiment, and not actual fundamentals. On just EPS alone, neither EM (0.78) nor TSLA (0.58) are remarkable, yet one price is up hugely and the other has tanked.

But you're right, if the price dropped further, I wouldn't rule out more layoffs. That would be perception-driven.

I'm so glad I left when I did (2016), and sold my shares when I did (at $86). I feel for my friends who are still there and for those recently let go. But to all of you, there is life beyond the Big E, and it's better. Less stress, fewer a-holes and the coffee is better.

I would think someone would buy them before they would file chapter 11 but who knows. They have red already had offers but when your so egotistical and prideful it would be hard to accept a takeover. We are to used to bullying.

Need to get over the dividend cut ranting. The dividend did NOT get EM into the mess it is in. Management did that. $30G capex levels did that. Do you think even for a second that if the dividend is ELIMINATED completely that layoffs and other drastic cost saving measure would not continue? If so, you are chasing unicorns.

It's as foolish as saying let's quit feeding the dog and our credit card debt will go away.

It would be the death whistle of a company on life support, a desperate measure that shows that EM is out of options to preserve cash.

The dividend is all that is keeping the stock price where it is. Cut it and watch the stock price go down even further. And what does that get you? Even more layoffs!

No. They will take out loans to prevent it. Darren said no more loans, but if it comes down to it, he will to prevent chapter 11.
