Thread regarding Truist Bank layoffs

In-Office Requirements - Say Bye to WFH & Hybrid

Truist has recently mandated that employees return to the office, with the exception of a select few who are mysteriously exempt. This decision has left many employees frustrated and upset. The new executive managers, most of whom are external hires, seem unaware that the entire merger of SunTrust and BB&T was successfully conducted remotely.

Amidst the current wave of changes and activity at Truist, many employees valued the flexibility of working from home as a way to cope with the turbulence. Now, they are forced to endure nightmare traffic, monthly parking charges, and other inconveniences just to come into the office, only to end up talking to their laptops. This is particularly frustrating since most team members are not even located in the same city or state.

There’s a rumor that in-office attendance will now be factored into annual performance reviews. Executive leadership and HR need to take note of the high attrition and recent turnover rates, which indicate widespread employee dissatisfaction. If these issues are not addressed, the bank risks losing many valuable employees due to the increasingly unbearable work environment.

…AND Executive Leadership still has a 3-day in-office requirement! It stinks. If my work is getting done, why care if I’m WFH!?!? As of October 2024, four (4) days in-office is required. Executive Management SU-KS! Great teammates are leaving every week now. TRUIST SU-KS right now!

Another snowflake whining about how unfair RTO is.

I am glad you at least recognize how limited your potential is….and choose to stay and submit to RTO.

There are so many telecommuters in an easy distance to the office, our RTO requirement is a JOKE and completely inconsistent. HR is going to get so many complaints of disparate and uneven treatment as soon as they pull the trigger on this actually being enforced or impacting comp.

Look in WorkDay in GCO or Risk for instance - there are entire teams with telecommute status.

The other sneaky thing I’ve seen is they put the “work location” as a random Truist building near where the person lives but that they don’t go to, to avoid showing them as “telecommute - city” like they should be. That’s a violation of HR, CREW and security policies.

@2usc+1tavf2mr, although the post didn’t mention dei, it’s an underlying measure for a potential legit complaint if full participation of RTO isn’t required by all or justification for those exempt isn’t provided. You and mainstream media focus on the people part of it because of failed policies, but don’t overlook the equity and fairness portion. And since the bank hired people outside of major office footprint, that means some people on a team will be required to be in office while their team mate like mine in Ohio will continue to be at home. Someone in a different RTO post alluded to this awhile ago.

I just looked up the hybrid days for Wells Fargo and Bank of America. They seem to be at three days. Can anyone verify this? That means Truist is going above and beyond to make it four days. This combined with the reduced 401(k) and the crapier health insurance and almost zero raises makes me think this is all about attrition of American workers, so they can be replaced with offshore. Why make folks too comfortable? Then they might actually stick around. It seems intentional to drive attrition. In fact, in one of our all hands, EL said the firm was not reaching its attrition goals, and the eventual desire is to have a higher mix of offshore contractors. They said it out loud. They want you gone.

@2hwz+1tavf2mr - Agreed! Sick of the DEI agenda. Hire the best person for the job. End of story

DEI is has nothing to do with the original post, which was about a mandate to return to office. Stay on topic or hush!

Pretty tone deaf to continue to bi--h about RTO when so many have been let go. They would jump at the chance to drive to work and be productive in an office. Let it go and grow a pair.

We had a remote job for two years. Remember how well the pandemic went with zero warm bodies in the offices? How easily EL forgets how happy they were with the productivity. Now to get teammates to leave, EL mandates 4 or 5 days RTO. What a shifty thing to do after all of our hard work during covid. EL will run this bank into the ground.
Watch and see.

DEI (Didn’t Earn It) by design, will destroy any organization eventually. As for me, I want the most competent people to be selected for responsibilities. Haven’t we learned enough in the last two years and seen enough damage, I think it’s time to move on and go back to what works which is meritocracy.

@2uox+1tavf2mr blaming DEI is a sign of generational lead poisoning - get your kids tested bro, too late for you though sadly.

If you have been at this company awhile, you know you are only your employee number to executive leadership.

You have leaders that got put in their position due to DEI and have no clue how to do the job.

This company is a sinking vessell.

I think it's the lack of leadership that is the main issue along with the culture of taking care of yourself before your subordinates/team. It is a replacement ecipe for Executive Management failure!!

The unfortunate reality is that they will probably let RTO create natural attrition, and just hire others at a lower pay rate, and not blink an eye. This bank essentially wants warm bodies in seats so they can continue to justify the leases they failed to renegotiate, as we as ensure any occupancy metrics are achieved to retain tax breaks….and of course placate managers who (bless em) have no idea how to manage a remote team.

Not saying that ANY of this is right. But lately, this bank doesn’t seem to care about what’s right. It’s a sad shell of what it used to be.

Thanks Baby Billy. I feel the purpose. Do you feel the purpose?

Wait. It was just gas. My bad.

At the same time they want people to return to the office I have heard rumors of further office closures, lengthening commutes and further eroding goodwill.

Not to mention the shooting, bo-b threats and bus hijacking in Atlanta. I'm sure everyone wants to go back there.

This is an issue for non-tech teammates as well. Not just folks in Delhi or whatever y’all are referring to in the replies. I’ve heard some teammates were given until October 1 to be in office four days a week.

How is that in-person collaborating working out when some managers are being told 60% of their team has to be offshore?

This post is dead on. Most teammates are not happy about the in office mandate. It’s ridiculous and quite a few FTEs are leaving. Merger was not entirely successful. Finally someone who can write properly. It’s a lost art! Thank you.

Truist stock is worth less today than the start of the year.

Did I cause the company to fail from working from home or was that because of incompetent "leaders" working from high-rise office suites?

Oh well, I'll just wait 3 months for the leadership to change again
