Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Omicron

Chevron sent an email out yesterday that Houston is on track to return to the office the week of January 3. In what world are things looking up? Cases are doubling every 2 days, but yeah, totally makes sense to go back now….and let’s make everyone worry instead of “resting and recharging”. Leadership has made it clear that they do not respect their employees as human beings, and checking a box on someone’s PMP is valued more than the health and safety of thousands.

@qboe, cool story bro, wish I would have come up that great tall tale first. Did you also test the asymptomatic vaccinated and boosted infected Carriers of Covid all over the airport and everywhere else you and he visited or didn't care to?

“Why do people test for Covid?” I got tested before visiting my 97 year old father after taking a long flight to visit him. I had no symptoms, I wore an well fitted n95 mask on the flight, and washed my hands religiously the whole trip. I tested negotiate. I tested out of simple respect and doing the best I could to protect him. After all he did for me when I was young I would be crushed to be the one who ki---d him. Grow up! Get vaccinated! The life you save might be someone you live!

@4sff Executives are admitting they were wrong and they are fixing the wrong. They should have never allowed for the employees to be WFH for 21 months. We should have been back in the office at least part time within 3-4 months. Your fine, you still go out to bars, restaurants, grocery stores, Friends and family gatherings, concerts, movies, plays, flights, wait in a line shoulder to shoulder with someone else to get a cotton swap shoved up your nose.

What a bunch of f*cking id--ts we have as colleagues! Executives who can’t admit they’re wrong and wannabes sucking up pretending they’re so excited to commute and breathe unvaccinated germs all over one another for the glory of the company. Can’t wait to put this place in the rearview!

Why do people test for Covid.

Sick = stay home (assume it’s Covid and use a little precaution like you use to with the flu)
Not sick = go to work

I don’t need a test to tell me this. It’s called common sense.

There may not be an ideal time to RTW, but trying to return when deaths in the US are 1000+/day, cases are rising rapidly across the nation, the majority of people will have just traveled, and testing is strained or not available is just f*cking stupid. Our workforce is overloaded as is. Critical business will be interrupted if people are sick or if they quit because they’re tired of being disrespected and asked to compromise their health. Wake up!

@3aji In Covington and entire team except one person did just that. Don’t worry they were our subsea field operations team. So you know fixing anything that brakes so we can keep producing oil and gas. I hope nothing brakes so we can keep making money in the GOM. I hope this turns into the biggest cluster we have had in a while so this company starts to respect there technical folks again.

What’s the goal here and what’s a good time to Return to the office

  1. . When Covid is no more?
  2. when omicron is gone?
  3. when everyone is vaxed (who

is everyone everyone in company, state, country, or world)

If you choose anyone except #2 then your answer is RTW will never happen. As you will always have Covid as we have always had Covid, you know the yearly flu is Covid. Now it’s different as it was not created in a lab but it’s Covid and it’s been around for a long time. Don’t hang your hat on Covid going away or not mutating. You can’t vax everyone in the world so let’s scratch that off the list so if you only vax the US and you want to keep it out of the US you would have to ban all travel. So since it still mutates, since the vax can still carry it, since the vax can still get sick from Covid ………. When does it end? The answer is never, this will never end until we the people ignore it. There are too many people make too much money from this stuff for it to end.

@3krt So you are so worried that you are home bound? No thanksgiving/christmas gatherings, no travelling, No going out to restaurants, kids homeschooled? Or you play the safety card only when it relates to going to the office?

@3pck I very much doubt employees will resign. Will go with their masks and weekly testing for a while and then get jabbed. Only threats here behind the phone, but chevron’s paycheck will be more important and make them forget their stance in a couple of month. Very much doubt 20-30-40% of the US employees will quit.

I very much doubt the company will fire all of the employees who refuse to return to work in a covid surge. It’s almost an intelligence test and they would be losing their best workers. LFG!

Whether you think it's unsafe or not, you can either show up for work in Jan. or quit, and we hope you quit and so do all of your co-workers. Thanks.

You’re no more of a true worker than someone else who wants to do their job from home. We just don’t want to get sick and expose our loved ones to unnecessary risk. Faking a vaccine card is unethical and I hope you will be found out and terminated. Thanks for making my point about why it is unsafe to return to work right now.

Look I am a true worker. I will go back to the office with my sticker and no mask. Long story about how you get a sticker if your like me but you can get them. Anyways, let the leftest who want to be afraid of this leave chevron. Hopefully a lot of them will leave and we can gain this company back and then the country. Why are dem’s even working in oil and gas isn’t it the devil to them.

Ok boomer, maybe you can explain why it’s so urgent to go back to the office right now? Why is this the optimal time? Exactly how is our business suffering from work from home? And how will having a sick workforce at the start of the new year be at all helpful?

@2apr, How is being intelligent the "boomer mentality"? I am not a boomer and I too, understand the pathetic hypocrisy of the people who want to go out and about town because they think the vaccine protects them but also pretend that they are afraid to go into work, where social distancing and precautions are being followed more than almost anywhere.
Do you guys actually think that everyone believes the sham, the pathetic whining "I don wanna go to work mommie" foolishness? Man-up. You're vaccinated, right? Scared? Say you're scared. Afraid to put in a hard day's work because you're a lightweight slacker snowflake :CHECK

Really can’t understand the Boomer mentality. Why would you prefer to get sick jammed into elevators and conference rooms when you can work from the safety and comfort of your own home? And commute an hour each way at your expense wearing a monkey suit, eating cr-p at the cafe, po----g next to your co-workers. Do you need to do all that to somehow feel good about yourself? SMH

The people bringing up travel fail to realize that at airports masks are mandated and on planes they have very good air filtration so there have been few catch it (the media would go crazy if there was an outbreak related to a plane). At Chevron masks won't be required and who knows how many rednecks will have fake vaccination cards. If people start getting sick and calling in how will that effect the work? Its both a saftey issue and the issue of commutes, quality of life and extra costs. If you park they take money from your paycheck in Houston and only partially pay for the metro. Thats some more great incentive to head up to the office to do what can be done from home.

Worker rights and benefits need to be respected. Do we really need an #exxodus situation with former employees posting pics under the sky ring on LinkedIn after they find better opportunities elsewhere? Does our company really think it can deliver digital and low carbon initiatives without millennials? Lol. My vote for our meme hashtag is #CVXodus (has that fast follower flair we’re so fond of), but I guess we’ll see what happens.

“Should” only applies if it was exclusively a safety concern. For convenience, the company should do whatever it wants. You always know where the door is.

Safety and convenience are both important. Employees should have the choice of work location (home or office) as long as they get the job done. The company needs to treat us like adults.

@2dss. If it is purely a safety issue, why are people always bringing up the tume they spent commuting etc? These group want to WFH for convenience, not safety. Nothing wrong against that, but say that all the ones wanting to stay home is because it is a safety reason. They moment many have a chance they do hop on a plane.

@2dss. That is probably true, that there is a group like the one you describe; however that is less than 1% of the group that says they are opposed to going back to work and how inconsiderate the company is, then you their pics on Facebook on all the travel, gatherings, etc. I am not making this up.

@2hox, your comments show your blatant disregard for others. Many of your colleagues have immunocompromised family members or children that are too young to vaccinate. They have not been traveling or even enjoying many of the everyday activities you take for granted. It is truly a safety issue, and you and the company need to respect that.

I am very scared, the infection rate is going up, Chevron should not make us risks our lives!! Ohh wait, o have some vacation left, and I do not have any problem getting on a plane, stay in a crowded family/friends house across the country over the holidays and go shopping! But…. The office is too risky.

@2rrr Stand up like the rest of the people and refuse to go back into the office. I know if I worked in any other roll SCM, HR, finance, IT, admin. I would leave tomorrow for a permanent WFH job. They will loose a lot of people and changes will be made.

Who serves on HRCMC? We need to know who is responsible for this clusterf*ck. Especially the person who thought it was a good idea to send that email just before everyone takes off for the holidays. Still on track for you and everyone you love to get Covid in the new year! Happy holidays and don’t forget to stay safe (wink wink, all your precautions for two years are for nothing since you’ll definitely get the virus in January).

Its unfortunate I live in Texas. Too many people that take zero precautions and risk others. How hard is it to wear a mask? It's paper on your face. You can breathe just fine. Some people seem to be toddlers and only refuse a minor inconvenience because someone said so. Its time to move work in the office back or better yet make it permanent as no one wants to deal with a bad commute and extra costs for water cooler talk. If you want that nothing is stopping you from going in but don't force people who work hard at home back just so you can hang out. Being back in the office will not help morale but will cause more attrition and frustration.

Glad I am in Texas where we don’t need to follow safe covid practices and we can finally get back together in the office hopefully ASAP. Chevron cannot make me wear a mask there either. I am healthy, not vaccinated, take vitamins and special teas and am not worried.

So far, Omicron doesn't seem to be as deadly as Delta, but it is extremely contagious, much more than the flu. Is it really a good idea to bring everyone back to the office to get sick with at least flu level symptoms for the month of January? Let the Omicron wave pass first - it should be over by Feb or early March.

Many of us can easily get double the work done working from home vs. having to deal with a stressful and draining long commute prone to lousy weather, soul-sucking traffic, and lousy drivers. This isn't the case for every position, but it is for some, when 95% of work done is teams meetings outside of Houston.

@1ohh - I hope there are a lot of people like you who will refuse to come back to the office at this time. Take a stand. If we can get enough people like you and your upvoters changes will be made.

Hopefully it results in permanent WFH and I can move to the country.

There is no way I will be putting the health of myself and my family at risk by returning to work during a covid surge. I’ve been delivering great performance from home for the last two years, and frankly I’m DISGUSTED that leadership thinks it’s better for us to get sick than continue working from home.
