1,140 layoffs

General Motors has scheduled 1,140 employees for permanent layoffs effective Jan. 5 at its Factory Zero site in Detroit. The list includes hundreds of assembly operators and is "due to production schedule adjustment required to adapt to slower near-term EV adoption," the company said in a notice to state of Michigan officials.

@5fa

We have no idea what you're talking about.

Maybe the people on the Ford board know?

At least they don't traffic new grads and trap them into a single rotation to keep the knowledge from escaping for 1.7 years and then torture them online covertly for 2+ more years so for ongoing. I wish i joined GM! Ford's full of fu--ing losers! Be fu--ing grateful you worked here!

@2q7
The gang of fired ex-employees aren't sending their best.
They will NEVER move on. GM was their identity and they were untouchable.
Until they were and now the tantrums. "shut it down" Okay, sure. Sure.
They will buy Toyota thinking they will bring down one of America's largest and oldest corporations. Good luck!

In the meantime, I'm looking forward to that bonus and enjoying almost an entire month off of work while being paid. It's a tough life.

No severance pay if they fire you for poor performance. That's considered for cause.

You also can't collect Unemployment for that, so stack ranking can really ruin your life.

slower near-term EV adoption...

Let me translate: "Big mistake by leadership - sorry for you".

GM invests $550 million to boost U.S. output of gas-powered vehicles though.

Hope the transmission and engine bearing "mistakes" get fixed or this might be short lived too.

But we were told if we were in the UAW, we were bulletproof.
I wonder what the dues paid for? Shawn Fein's salary?
He makes $274,407 a year, a true working class hero!
