Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

Our culture has been deteriorating incredibly fast, and it’s by design

Many left on their own, not having nerves to wait for layoffs and a package. It is literally becoming unbearable. And it has been by design. Coming RTO is just another attrition tactic. If merger with Humana goes through, reorg and adjustments that will follow will be just another excuse to kick as many of us out as they can.

Those who left without a package are probably wise in this difficult job market. I left with a package and it took 7 months to land an offer. I’m grateful for the package but came very close to having to defer to unemployment. The market is flooded and extremely competitive. If the time you did a résumé and interview was outside of Cigna was more than 5 years ago, than you’re in for a rude awakening of what it’s like on the other side, where your work history isn’t known. It’s also a lot easier to land a new job when you are already employed. No matter what the reason is for being laid off, there is a bias in the market and it definitely makes it harder to land a new role.
I truly wish the best to everyone. I truly hope your culture changes for the best because there are lots of colleagues, friends and family that still work there that I care about.

“ So it's a little gas and time to go into the office a few days a week. So what???”

Here’s what:
The ability to take kids to school and pick them up.
The ability to coach kids sports teams.
The ability to spend an extra hour with family in the evenings.
The ability to exercise in the morning.
The ability to attend church on Wednesdays.
Saves 1000K/month on vehicle wear.
Saves $120/month on gas.
I could go on.
In short, WFH leads to this “vitality” we hear so much about.

But let’s look at what we’re asked to sacrifice those things for:
The ability to sit alone in a cube and webex teammates around the country.
End of list.

Cigna may have a valid point if it were the case that employee roles are localized, but this is far from the case.

Many of us WFH people left a job we liked to come to Cigna because we were offered WFH status. It isn’t right to expect us to acquiesce to thus poorly executed mandate.

Yes, it’s s-xist to say a woman sleeps with her coworkers to be successful in her job. This shouldn’t have to be explained to you.

A lot of it can be traced back to poor adoption of RTO. One of the stated benefits was a bettering of company culture.

But that's only as good as the number of butts in seats day in and day out

What’s the point of posts like this? Just negative fear mongering at people who are already stressed and upset
