So much none sense in this thread. If you are not a US citizen but come to study in the US, you have the right to optional practical training (OPT) aka internship. If you stay further you need to move onto a J-1 or H1-B visa. Remember those are legal immigration documents. Yet at that time you are labeled as an "alien". Only after several years on H1-B can you get a green card (except for those who win the green card lottery). And believe me, I was on H1-B for a while, I never made less money than US citizens. And I paid bunch of taxes too. If you guys prefer to train a workforce at your universities and then send them packing with that education instead of keeping them to fuel the US economy, fine. Also remember that bunch of professors who teach your kids at universities are on H1-B :)

Don't blame CTXS lack of strategy and terrible execution on immigrants, that's total ignorance.

So sad and disgusting to read all this. “Bangalorians are way brighter, better trained than the natives”, “Whites work better than Indians” – what’s the racist bullshit! How stupid it is to assess one’s skills based on ethnicity. The moment we hired a manager who did that, we became a crappy company. It’s because of the fu..ers like @3pkj who only based their hiring decisions on ethnicity we’re having the cuts today. It’s because of them who hired only people of the “right” ethnicity we’re in such a mess. Those managers should be the ones to lay off first. But it ain’t gonna happen, because we’re firing the same way we hiring, aren’t we?

We have increasingly had to use foreign educated engineers, ship them into FTL from Bangalore. Simply because they are way brighter, better trained than the natives. They are paid and taxed comparably and much easier to work with. A lot of the USA natives seem to feel entitled but fail to realise as a manager this is a ton of hassle and one we are only doing as lots of the FTL aren't half as good as the think and are over paid for their skills and work ethic (drifting).

@2ypx: Read @2nyb 's post again -- he said it exempts employers not employees from certain taxes (in the US, both employers and employees pay a portion of various payroll taxes). I don't know how much this applies to #H1B, but it certainly applies to #OPT, for which Obama's DHS is about to triple the visa duration, so Zuckerberg et al. can bypass the annual H-1B caps.

H1B visa holders pay social security and medicaid taxes. Also H1B workers who went to US universities get commensurate pay.

if i had to guess, the H1B are the least affected; it makes financial sense. remember, H1B holders exempt the employer form paying: payroll taxes, social security taxes, medicare and medicaid taxes. plus H1B holders work for significantly less money than their US citizens' or green card holders' counterparts. so why wouldn't a business work against its best interest and pay significantly more for US citizens when it can literally cut the cost per engineer in HALF?!

it is a shit sandwich for the native engineers, and until the laws are changes it will continue to be the case.

Because of the roles affected, marketing, CX, IX; there seem to be very few women left. Seems to be a lot of junior level, behind the scenes guys going and little sign of the layers and layers of management who caused this situation being affected.
