Thread regarding Follett layoffs

Action Required

The master/servant culture needs to end. And it starts at the top. The mindset of established “leaders” are self serving and will never contribute to a one team culture. The “we are the experts” mentality will keep driving poor results. The (we are the smartest people in the room) thinking is why we have an abundance of old inventory that is not selling and just keeps getting markup after markup (Sarbanes Oxley), dead textbook inventory…anyway. It will just keep happening if the two new leaders keep a blind eye to the actual cause. It’s not in the execution it’s in the direction and attitude handed down.

Wait, SZ is still with Follett? Can believe she made it all the way up in the company after Stanford

Look up the definition of micromanager in the dictionary and it will show a picture of SZ. I’ve worked for SZ before and she is not inspiring AT ALL! SZ wants the appearance of things being together but morale and all other things are in the dump. How she’s made it this long doesn’t make any sense. SHE WILL NEVER CHANGE!!!

SZ has been and will continue to be the problem for G2 - and the organization as a whole. SZ lacks leadership, versatility, only is only focused on checking off boxes to look good, and can’t even get her group RMs to openly communicate with each other because she’s got them fearful and pitted against one another. Can’t grow a business without a LEADER. Micromanager at best and more will continue to leave because of SZ. It’s sad but SZ will never change and the new leadership will identify that very quickly, if they are worth a grain of salt. Old Follett, New Follett - same s*it, different day.

In region 42/41, we are about to lose our fourth RM in less than 4 years. Most likely, the less profitable stores will close and after years of loyalty, store staff will lose their jobs without a moment's hesitation. Instead of looking at individual stores, they need to look at the common denominator. This company will not be successful as long as SZ is still here.

You all realize that “Family Guy” is likely not family. That group cashed out big time along with the executive group. They will probably be celebrating for the next few weeks as they just made enough for two generations of their family to live very well.

If you just made millions of dollars, would you be on here wasting your time? I wouldn’t.

We are off our digital number by tens of millions and next years plan is not achievable.

If this is a true PE, then they are right about one thing and that is that cuts are coming. Everyone appears to care about us until their is a number. Remember when SODA was going away, our systems were getting an upgrade, all the communications were about how much they value the stores and HO was here to serve?

Sound familiar?

Unless we get into a higher margin business, we will be in the same boat we were before the sale. Do more with less, small stores like mine ignored or closed, and if we don’t like it they will tell us to leave.

Nothing I have heard was about investing money, or changing the business. It was going after more stores and not just trading them with BNED.

Hard reality but someone prove different.

I left Follett months ago and I got to tell you that I’ve never seen such an obsessed group of complainers about a topic / company in my life. Move on people. Move on. If you don’t want to be there - simply leave. The reason why you choose to stay and complain is because you can’t find a job anywhere else. Period. Complaining about the family, leaders, policies….that pain can be taken away immediately- JUST LEAVE!

He is absolutely only going to go to very large or high profile campuses. Do people really think he's gonna show up to East Bumfck Community College in some tiny Arkansas town? Of course not.

EK was out at NYU and St. Johns. I wonder if they just took him to the "show off" stores or he got a taste of anything else. Wouldn't be surprising if he was steered in very specific directions.
