Back to school

Any nurses here contemplating going back to school for an advanced masters degree after constantly worrying about RIFs? Would it be comical to inquire about Elevance providing education reimbursement (lol!)

And please understand managemt doesn’t know anymore than you do what will happen when cm rolls over. We are all in the dark.

You don’t have to ask, just look up the policy and follow it. Put it as a goal ( how many classes you’ll complete teach Q) in your performance plan. I’ve collected degrees like classic cars during my tenure. Finishing another masters soon.

I am a nurse with over 25 years at Elevance Health. I personally am not looking to go back to school at this time, but support those who are.

It takes 2 plus years to get a masters. I truly don’t think we have 2 years… the plan is to roll many of us over to Carelon. Case management by 2025. Um outpatient already in some areas. I guarantee Gail will move us all. . Then I assume once over there, carelon will either change the pay structure, AIP etc no matter what they ‘promise’ now amd out source as many jobs as possible.

Recently graduated from college, EH funded my entire degree. It is possible to use the tuition reimbursement program, if you area of study is relevant to your position.

As toxic as this company is I wouldn’t be surprised if they declined tuition reimbursement. I’m thinking about paying for a CDI certificate or something like that. The job market is very competitive right now, especially if you make more than 80k per year.

@xwf+1sUqqG5S This is so true. I’m not in the nursing field but I tried for years to go to school/obtain certifications and the answer was always NO. They said it wouldn’t help me in my current role. But then you’d turn around and see all their friends/lap dogs taking the same courses/certifications. Fast forward to when they are deciding who gets RIFed and who stays and you can already tell how that shakes out. I tried applying for the same position in the company and outside the company but part of the requirements was those certifications. It’s not enough for them to take your livelihood but they have to ensure you have no marketable skills to take with you too.

You better hope your manager likes you; otherwise, they will try to find a reason to block the education reimbursement when you attempt to submit it after completing a class.
