Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Too many employees with too little to do

I know there are a lot of employees who can be done with work within two hours because they barely have anything to do. Why are there still here? Everybody hates layoffs but sometimes they are necessary and if they got rid of people who are nothing but a drain on Chevron, we'd all be much better for it.

Yes indeed, there are definitely many employees with very "little to do" at CVX these days and the proof is right here on this very site. The next round of layoffs will indeed be a real treat and a delight for those who actually work for a living.

That's interesting, accusing someone who's supposedly over a certain age and therefore full of wisdom, unlike one who's pathetic and immature, unsuccessfully trying to figure out "pattern's" and stereotyping online anonymous posters.
Wow, what a life (or lack thereof).

@5bfu Just commenting on observations.

Like all other behavior, online behavior fits a pattern.

Patterns are easy to identify. Motivations tent to be more opaque.

Ex: the pot/kettle/black reference is an age-tell, since people under 50 generally don’t use it. It’s also showed up elsewhere on this board in similar contexts.

@5ugv = @3qqb "replying to his own post" ... pot, meet kettle.

@3qqb He also replies to his own posts and downvotes the ones he disagrees with to try to get them taken down.

He’s not that tech savvy though. Comes across a being a bit older (over 50). Doubt he even knows what a torrent VPN is. He’s doing it the “old fashioned” way. Given the amount of time he spends doing this stuff, I have to assume that he’s unemployed. He’s definitely not current on what happening within Chevron.

@3qqb, with all that knowledge it sure seems like you are one of the the trolls doing all this foolishness and trolling everybody. prolly the main one lol

“since you can only vote once”… unless you log in on a torrent vpn, in which case you can up/down vote to the same post as many times as you like. Popcorn boy discovered how to do this after he was banned for obnoxious posts, and now he adds many up votes to his own posts to try to make it appear he is widely agreed with. That said, why he cares is anyones guess!

@3ipo, apparently you and the extremely triggered @2mug care very much, or else you wouldn't be responding to someone who either trolled you or you are just paranoid and were downvoted by others who don't share your views, much more likely since you can only vote once, afaik.

@2mug It’s just one guy who patrols this site 24/7 and downvotes everything he doesn’t like en masse.

I posted how he’s doing it a few months ago. It’s not hard to figure out.

Why he’s taken it upon himself to do so is something that only he knows. Apparently, he thinks the world cares how many downvotes comments posted here have next to them.

Yes, good point , and whatever they are, RM, MW, HR trolls, people sitting around doing nothing and complaining about a lot of nothing, they desperately need to be purged from the company rolls, ASAP. If they have that much time on their hands that they are counting reactions to layoff posts on company time they need to move along. Chop Chop!!!

Ummm, K. So whenever anyone capable of critical thought comments on these boards with an opinion contrary to the anti-HR troll,(??? pro/anti, don't know) they are accused of something having to do with HR, RM, too many "reactions" blah blah, blah by some paranoid schizophrenic detached from reality who literally goes off the deep end. This is starting to show an obvious trend. Whoever you are, troll, please seek professional help.

Uh-oh. Look at the unusually high number of 'reactions' to this post. Looks like RM's HR trolls have been told to flood this topic too... Oh, and @jtq, @1yqu (how dare you question the Dividend!), @1fot, 1gvo, @2ffo, and @2ddd, you guys truly speak truth to power.

They do not do any work themselves

The big bad meanies are more useless than anyone else

Oil price does all the work
And when it is low, the bullies cry wolf and layoff the ones who actually work

Oh, bless your dear hearts! Like me, you thought that you were joining a country club, with free child care, health care and all sorts of miscellaneous bennies for doing next to nothing all day. Those big bad meanies actually expect us to work!!!

For many years it has become evident that you cannot have a satisfying career. I know many, including myself joined chevron to get expat assignments, yet most interesting places are no longer in play, also many expats are staying in their role for more than typical 3 to 4 years and abuse the system and the high up management do not care because many of them in charge are abusing the system themselves and staying overseas for well over a decade. For the career ladder same depressing story, people are not given chance to progress, doing a great job year over year results in no promotion, PDC is a joke mostly as they talk about stretching and developing people but the selection is always around business continuity not really rotating people to different roles and experiences. Then are the continuous layoffs, almost 4 in the past 6 years, and so many useless changes to show management is busy and thinking about improving business by transforming oil and gas exploration company into a tech company with start up mind set, agile, and all that nonsense initiatives that we all know are doomed for failure. So, you get to a point to make a decision, is it worth it to put my energy and efforts for a company and management who truly does not care about me and my team, or is it worth to stay sane and mentally healthy, spending my time on things I enjoy more and just appreciate the pay check, many would chose the latter and that is what you are seeing and it is bad for the whole company. But the one to be blames is MW for his lack of vision and long term commitment to the company as a whole.

"...With the last transition many people found out that they don't have a career just a job..." We should anoint this as "The MW Way". It's crystal clear that if you're not a high-pot, you only have a job, and only until the next layoff. As for the high-pots, they don't have a career either, just a series of clueless promotions. I can readily name you a dozen high-pots in decision-making positions who couldn't figure their way out of a paper bag. From my perspective, this is most evident in upstream, where, since 2020, we don't have anyone in a management or leadership position who has ever actually found or produced any oil.

24 months? They get promoted within 9 months from what I’ve seen. They’re never in a job long enough to actually see the impact their decisions make on the business. Then somebody has to follow them around, cleaning up the mess.

Never been hard to spot high pots. They are not allowed to be in a position more than 24 months.

With the last transition many people found out that they don't have a career just a job. No matter how much they do or how well they do it, they won't get recognized. I never understood why management posted who got what job. It made it clear who all the HiPots are.

Quiet quitting is giving up on yourself and your career. In every walk of life people seek to better themselves. QQ sounds like a way to turn yourself from a winner to a whiner to a loser.

Quiet Quitting is no different than doing your job but not sacrificing time with your family by working long hours that are unpaid depending if you are salaried or not. Don't really see a problem with doing your job and not going way above and beyond for nothing.

Anyone obsessed with layoffs and wanting to have them to protect profits for very wealthy people have some major problems. I think our fellow employees are a little more important than raising the dividend a couple pennies. Besides transform to win was supposed to allow us to win no matter what so no more layoffs.

Yes indeed, there's a dire need for some chopping, including quite a few of the trolls who park on this site all day complaining instead of working. The layoff site, on the other hand, is a quite fitting place for their predetermined fate.

Yes Mike, it the quiet quitting company, always has been. I think you need to fire another 15% employees. It's partly your fault, it is almost impossible to fire an employee at Chevron.

The problem is the industry and our business are shrinking faster than we can manage, leaving many employees idle. We need a better way to manage the decline.
