Thread regarding Sam's Club layoffs

Is it going to be even harder for us in 2020?

Are we in for more of the same in 2020, or will the leadership want to round up all the shifts and changes in 2019. I know that changes (and not for the better) are an ethernet category at Sam’s, but can we expect more schedule changes, elimination of certain positions and departments to the same degree they occurred in 2019?

If I were on the management team I would be very concerned. You can see more and more duties/responsibilities being “transferred “ over to Team Leads which is going to lead to the “trimming of the fat” if you will, and it only makes sense.

What does Sam’s have to lose in making Team Leads basically unofficial managers? You can pay them more per hour because that always looks good to the work force and it makes them feel more important as a increase in pay does that.

I understand that a lot of managers will shake their heads like a bobble head and insist that there is a lot more to their job than just walking around and pitching in here and there and I agree. I am for sure that being on the management team means more than anyone knows but this is about “trimming the fat” and those bonuses are a lot of extra fat...and there are a lot of managers in these “clubs”...way to many and each gets what? A bonus, which is extra money the company can save by “trimming the fat” and going down to say 1/2 of their management staff per store (and sorry managers, but this is just for starters as I can see the management team being 2 per store 3 tops.).

Sam’s has already cut the associates off at the knees and the moral is very low at “clubs” so what else can be done to save a lot of money in a short amount of time? Don’t worry, I fully understand that more changes will come for those of us who are still associates which will include more responsibilities and more work load on those of us who actually come to work and take pride in our jobs. But the writing is on the wall (which really is in need of fresh coat of paint and while maintenance would like to help maintenance is out at gas station giving them their lunch) and your time is coming. As a matter of fact the way the management team has been carrying themselves as of late I think they know something is coming their way. Anyone else notice how they are sitting by letting departments fall apart more and more and yet walking around like they have no care in the world?

I wish this not on anyone but when you as managers sit behinds doors and talk about your associates like you do, you deserve what is coming to you and while some managers on the management team are some of the best people you could ever work for, they are so few. I wish you well cause I think your days are numbered.

They can eliminate managers, break it down to two per store, so each store would have a general manager and one other. Shove the remaining manager responsibilities off to team leads. And hire team lead assistants at, say 15 an hour, to do what team leads do now.

Something is going to change. You can not give 4 to 7 dollar an hour raises and make up the difference by changing to a less time consuming, c-appy tasting, flat a– yeasty roll that no one wants to buy or by cramming small crescent rolls in a small package, so there smooshed together and oh so less appealing. The 1 cent they save on different packaging is not going to make a difference if NO ONE BUYS THE PRODUCT. Change is inevitable. And it wo t be good. Im sure they are trying to figure out how to change racking chicken's because it's too labor intense. They should change their slogan to " in business to piss members off" #SMH.

There aren’t many jobs left to eliminate now that aren’t lumped in big groups outside of managers.

Maybe we should do the right thing and save some money by cutting out market, regional, and corporate visits. Auto and flight travel are not cheap. Just use the technology you push on the clubs and do all tours on iPads on skype.

I wouldn't be surprised if there are another wave of clubs removed from the current roster. In fact, I'd be shocked if there aren't. With such a heavy emphasis being placed by the company on club pick-up and shopping online, and so little attention on giving the stores themselves the attention they require for members who physically shop in them, it's as if the company is actively pushing people to utilize one of the non-physical options. They're basically directing people away from the stores in order to change the way they shop. Now that may be a little farfetched on my part, but am I alone in having that thought? They're already well on their way to having things in place for clubs to operate in a fashion in which there are almost no floor associates available at all during hours of operation. Self-checkout terminals outnumber cashier terminals 3-to-1, there are no dedicated associates to a given area anymore (other than fresh departments), merchandisers are at or below a bare minimum and then used for various duties other than merchandising, there almost no reasonable time and man hours set aside only for stocking versus what would be a productive number or ratio, hiring new associates and actually getting them in the building to start their torturous tenure is deeply flawed and counterproductive, and the receiving process has been actively taken out at the knees due to block scheduling itself. It really does appear that this is being done intentionally for a very specific purpose, other than for the influence it has on quarterly earnings and bonuses. And I'm certain that they're not even close to being done. I've long since been left with the impression that this is going on throughout the entire company and most of the 599 clubs reflect this or situations very similar to this. This company has obviously deserted the high dollar demographic in favor of a lesser one, believing that the way the economic situation in this country continues to develop, there are going to be more opportunities for them to lure in the less-sophisticated working families in areas where they face fewer competitors. F— it, I don't know. Maybe they feel they can more readily shape the shopping habits of this target group of members so when they do decide to go full throttle into whatever their new Sam's Club redefined (think Aldi meets Amazon Prime) scheme happens to be. Is it going to be Sam's Club Now? Maybe. Only HO knows at this point.
