Almost all companies say degree or equivalent experience on job postings!
All a degree tells them is your good at learning, being that most college
classes have almost nothing in them of direct value to the company.
The truth is if your a good self learner out of high school,
four years of related job experience probable has more value then a degree.
Also people without degrees are cheaper which is a big factor.
We are awaiting for the 'My manager (or IT director) said our jobs are safe and blah blah blah' to remark on here that all is well with THEIR group.
"I want to know how all these people that don’t have degrees are getting jobs as Engineers?"
If you have to ask that question and you have worked at WIN for any time...you will never know then
I want to know how all these people that don’t have degrees are getting jobs as Engineers?
I heard that people in the St. Louis NOC got walking papers.
I'm on disability insurance and was able to enroll
Shoot there was one person in a group I was in that was on vacation in Australia when he got let go.
My former manager was RIF'd a few years ago while he was out of state on vacation.
If you are out on short-term disability, I'd get with a lawyer and inquire if that is legal. You can't enroll for insurance during open enrollment if you're out on short-term, as you are not classified as an "active" employee.
Joining an ERG won't save you, not even if you're on the board.
Laid off while out on a medical leave? This seems low for even Win! I also heard the training department got hit pretty hard.
I belong to one of the ERGs and we have been promised special treatment going forward by HR leadership. Everyone should join one
Everybody (will get) a turn - unfortunately. Can't say you didn't see it coming.
Don't worry, with your degree in engineering getting another job should be easy. Windstream is where careers and hopes go to die!
They definitely laid off at least 1 person in IT Corp Sys
I got hit too. My team is small so don't want to say where, but after 10 years of loyalty and hard work, moving up through the ranks and even making a career change...after receiving regular praise for the quality of my work...I get a phone call while I'm out recovering form surgery. I've talked this company up so many times. Thanks a lot Windstream.
how many total?
Vague enough? Engineering covers alot of facets of the company?
Which Network or services did you support?
Voice?
Data?
Transport?
offices/regions?
Heard they let go at least one of the ITSS folks, maybe more. We don't have enough as it is.
just got let go in engineering also
Best of luck – hoping your next job comes quickly and is better.
Sorry to hear that. Good luck to you.
I'm hunkered down waiting to see if this blows over for me or not.
