Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

back to office email

How does everyone feel about the email from the CEO about sending some of us back to the office? I already know of people who are planning on quitting. Good people too. I think this is a way to make people quit instead of laying them off.

I’m disappointed. I will have to quit my job because of this. My husband and I moved to the other side of town to put our kids in a better school district. Knowing I didn’t have to drive to the office was helpful. Now to get there, with city traffic, it’ll take me almost two hours to get there. I’ve been working from home for 11 years and now they want to change it. David is screwing us over. Coming from the man who made over 20 million last year. Let us hard workers stay at home.

I so agree with you! There’s no reason to have to together to “work together”. Most of my team isn’t even in my city! Let alone in one city! There’s no way I’m driving to my office. It’s cheaper for me to quit and just be a mom. No way I can afford child care! Once again, attack on moms. Let my man work, right? Smh, thanks cigna CEO!

The Iris page that discusses this states clearly that the majority of employees will work either full time or part time in a physical office. I would think almost everyone who is within 50 miles or so from an office will be required to commute at least part time. That would include many who have worked at home since before COVID. I wouldn't be surprised if a great many people are searching for a new job or waiting for another announcement to give their notice. Most positions collaborate with teammates in other states now, so there's no reason to commute to an office building unless the execs truly think we cannot be trusted to work unsupervised.

I completely agree that this feels like a way to weed out employees without having to deal with backlash and negative publicity of layoffs or pay out any severance. I see no reason that those who have been performing well at home for years should have to return to the office if they don't want to, especially since some offices have significantly changed locations or employees have moved further outside the city once they thought their commutes were over.

Working in the office isn’t for everyone, I do not want to go back and it will not benefit my life. It’s time to move on, cigna is not exclusive like it used to be.

I think this will only impact people who went WAH during COVID. I don't think it will impact folks who have been WAH all along.

I miss working in the office. They closed my site so I had to go WAH. I hope they re-open it so I can work in office again.
