If it happens, it will just be another attrition strategy. At this point we should all see ourselves as redundancies easily removed and, if needed, replaced abroad.

Yea, makes sense. Since long hard work resulted in all the technological, industrial and agricultural advancements and progress in the world, we should all learn from all that and work less!!!! LMAO!
“What’s the big deal with RTO 5 days a week? That’s the way it used to be pre 2020.”
Huh? Using your logic, instead of driving cars we'd ride horses and we’d cook over an open fire rather than microwave. Don’t get me started on scribes coping manuscripts (copiers) or writing memos instead of texting.
Times change, tech advances, and work should follow suit.
This is not certain even with Amazon, they may back track, recent survey shows 69% of companies are allowing some sort of hybrid up from 50% in 2022. It will be hard to say of hearing forces the RTO, but they are looking for excuses to justify it and one of them is supervisor attendance dashboard, they keep monitoring attendance it might be used for next round of layoff or might be used a a justification that employees do not show up anyways and abuse the hybrid so let's go RTO for all.
WFH is working just fine for some of the most complex technical companies in the world. It’s also how they attract and retain talent. If you’re using Amazon as an example then you’ve never known anyone that works there. High pay but they intentionally churn through employees. That’s not what we’re trying to be at Chevron. F2F can be great for some things but nothing justifies going back to 5 days a week. Thus the Houston switch to open offices.
If you don’t trust your employees to work from home then you shouldn’t trust them at the office either.
@2anw How about understanding the company you work for and the one that pays your salary doesn’t see the same value in WFH that they see in working in the office. Get over it or leave.
So now the only thing left for the WFH fanboys is to accuse other's of what they themselves are actually doing? Oldest argument in the playbook. Sure, that's hilarious. You WFH people are more efficient and "disciplined" than everyone else in the company. Gotcha! lol.
Bunch of gray hairs and office socialites in this thread who can’t believe that people actually are productive WFH because they themselves don’t have the discipline for it, or they know the only “contribution” they make to the company is BSing in the office and creating pointless meetings.
@1xkq+1uyhiweK Remote school is not a selling point for WFH. I went to college during covid and remote learning is a joke. That whole experience was a complete disaster and my generation is less intelligent, both intellectually and socially, because of it.
I refuse to work from home.
Let’s be honest. If your job can be done from home it can be done from India for half the cost.
@2dnq, well since they allowed some WFH and some people got used to playing around all day & taking care of personal things at home instead of working and still collecting the same pay, they feel they are entitled to that now. Sort of like the government handing out temporary disaster assistance then long after the disaster trying to cut back on it because it "should" no longer be required yet the parasites all go ballistic and act like they can't exist without it and will all starve.
What’s the big deal with RTO 5 days a week? That’s the way it used to be pre 2020.
Yes, it’s a staff reduction strategy. Yes, the Amazon news will absolutely factor in. No, downtown does not have the space but there’s a lot purchased on the west side of Houston that is currently under construction.
As to the ‘face to face is the only way’ crowd, the current crop of recent hires from the top universities would argue they did everything remote from late high school thru their degree. If we don’t adapt, they’ll take their significant talent that we need to survive to a competitor.
Get over it and get back to work Snowflakes. That was the way the world was pre-Covid. No amount of video meetings can match the process productivity and collaboration of f2f office work.
only way to continue WFH is to spin it that its cost savings for company in terms of utilities and rental
I would think it's a certainty, however there is not enough space in Houston to have everyone back 5 days a week. Even if they do a MASSIVE layoff, I don't think there is enough space.
If they have posted my job in India - then doesn’t that mean I can work from home? If it can be done from India, surely it can be done from my home 2 days a week. Duh? Or is that too logical for our crew of d-mbos
RTO was never in question, the question after 2022 has been always when? Last year survey of CEOs revealed that 63% expect RTO by 2026, now Amazon has led the pack and I think for Chevron it will be Summer or Fall 2025.
@1mwc…..nice strategy. Take it out on the lowest paid workers in the building. Very classy.
I'm going to clog those toilets 5 days a week and there's nothing they can do to stop these bowels.
Of course it’s a way to get rid of people, very easily.
Yes. It's going to happen.
