Thread regarding Ally Financial Inc. layoffs

Was there any red flags?

For those laid off, were there any red flags prior to layoff.

The red flags that I am seeing are:

  1. All work are being outsourced or done by the bot. Just a few months ago we were so busy we were overwhelmed but now work reduced by approx. 90%
  2. An analyst has now been bought into our dept to " streamline and make us more efficient ". Even though our work has already been greatly reduced. Where was an analyst when we needed one during our busy years? We do not need one now, but I think they are here to rank us. Those ranked lower may be laid off. Those ranked higher will possibly be moved to a new dept.
  3. Leadership strongly encouraging us to create a resume and they want to look at it. It's always good to have a resume ready in a time like this, but it's weird that they actually want to look at it.
  4. Leadership wants to sit side by side to see how we do our process. This is understandable during busy days, but not when work is so greatly reduced. Makes me think they are actually ranking us.
  5. Hiring freeze

These are the red flags that I can think of.

For those laid off, I am sorry and I hope you find a better job.

They have been laying off people since January of This year. Several employees were converted to contractors and they also increased the annual budget for TCS and cognizant for the first time in 4 years. (Hint:outsourcing)

I have NO REGRETS from my time at Ally...
it was always just a paycheck.

Let this be a warning to all you young employees that think Ally is a great place to work. You are a tick mark, that’s all. If you think a company has your best interest at heart then you’re a fool. Control your destiny. Don’t leave it up to management. Ever watch the movie Office Space when they bring in the two guys to fire people? Ally managements favorite scene!

Work for Ally? Never. They are treating employees horribly. Next employee survey needs to be answered honestly. They have been a fake culture enriched we love our employees disgusting corporation. Make sure the public knows the real truth

I can tell you there were no red flags. Management and supervisors know this. The company used to say Do It Right. That mantra is out the window. Dealers will find out how bad long time employees are being treated and I hope they abandon Ally. Evil company now. Stay away if you’re looking for a job. Stay far away

I was laid off in the first wave and I’d like to add that they are ranking by who has the most capacity, who they don’t like, whose job they can automate, who’s close to retirement, and who makes a lot of money that can be replaced with an analyst or early talent! Basically, you may be showing them how to replace yourself.

Anonymous, you are not paranoid at all. Pretty much the same things happened in our department before they laid us off in October. I can not think of anything else to add at all. You pretty much summed it all up. Hopefully you are just reading too much into it, but if not, good luck!!
