Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Rifs

TRend at Bnym, and it’s not subtle.
More and more employees are being “RIF’d” under the disguise of performance issues — even when their track record is spotless. Let’s call it what it is: ageism and salary targeting.Batman and Robin don’t want to admit they’re cutting older, higher‑paid workers, so they hide behind manipulated evaluations and vague buzzwords like “not agile enough,” “not aligned with culture,” or “needs more energy.” It’s a cost‑cutting strategy dressed up as performance management.
This isn’t about merit.
It’s about money, age, and who they think they can push out quietly.
I should have fought your bullsh-t but didn't. I hope others do and this POS company gets what they deserve.

@205

Sorry to hear your troubles and forced retirement.

"And few months later all the younger staff quit"
The bank did not go belly-up and the stock price moved from 88 to 140 -> just about 60% appreciation. That last statement made me say this

I got laid off in 2017 despite having the highest performance rating in my group.

Guess why, I was in my early 60’s. After I was gone a manager said to the rest of the staff I was let go because they “needed people who could keep up with current technology”. This despite the fact I trained younger staff on new technologies!

I went to an employment attorney to see if I had a case and he told me to forget it and just take my meager severance.

What’s worse is I had to retire early after losing the job.

Sounds like they’re ripe for a mass class action lawsuit if they’re still getting away with this.

They were by far the worst company I worked for in a 38 year career.

Within a few months all younger staff quit.

@q8 Did you have to spend weeks pulling together years of performance reviews and other evidence to support your case beforehand?

@q8 good info thank you. I'm glad I didn't sign that BS liability release they sent and called a lawyer instead.

@a8 They do cave quickly if you fight them and have a legitimate case. It’s not hard to establish legitimacy given how brazen they are with fake performance reviews, ageism, every ism. In my case, did not need to go to court and was settled within 2 months. I would encourage anyone experiencing their unethical nonsense to engage an attorney to push them. The end result is they will most likely pay you 2 weeks for every year of employment vs the watered down month or two of pay they are trying to get away with. They are betting most will sign off on whatever they decide and it seems they are winning in this regard. If you have a more egregious story may end up winning more than the amount I mentioned. In my case, was fairly standard. There a long time, no performance issues other than recently fabricated ones, forced out. They did end up paying me for a year. I wish all of you working there the best dealing with that awful situation.

@a8, Document everything. Make it hard for them so they either have to pay you to leave or sue if the don’t.

You know?
You study hard in school, take all the exams, do well, have the support of great and beautiful people in your life, work hard, are totally committed and give it your all.

Only to wind up in a sad, trash heap of lies which is BNY.

Then, you are subjected to lies, dishonesty, fake and rigged ratings. Then made out to be someone who couldn’t cut the mustard.

karma and our justice system need to wake up sometime. It is not the people being judged unfairly. It is BNY and it’s rich lying liars.

If they come for me I'll definitely sue them. I hear they cave if you fight back.

“We do the bare minimum for ourselves and our clients” should officially be included as a core value and tracked in our feedback. Many would receive an “exceeds” on this metric.
