Thread regarding T-Mobile layoffs

October RIF?

I’ve heard a couple times over the past few weeks that there is a board level commitment to reduce a specific percentage of head count and leadership will be announcing in October.
I don’t have any other information.

Has anyone else heard anything?

Cybersecurity layoffs today 10/1/24. Second year in a row. Interesting timing with news of settlement fines for our recent data breaches. Not a good look!

The men in the high castle brag about 35% quarterly dividend increases and give themselves off-cycle raises while we get to sit around without cost of living adjustments and the constant fear of the next RIF.

My org had a reduction in August, which was purely performance based. Is the rumored Oct reduction in addition to August or just the other orgs?

total combined At&T, Verizon, and Tmobile telecom earnings are 5B for phones and phone plans in all. We have reached the end. Be happy that we produced the best phone 20 yrs ago. the consumer is tapped out. IT can't do anything towards getting telecom earnings. The long term dept is 75B. Even if we paid 2 rupees per day to everyone for offshore, we won't get more earnings or ever pay the long term down. Just have big smiles for 2024 and 2025 my friends.

If they're bringing in off shore contractors under H1B, they have to have a job opening for them to fill. I just don't know how you make an IT job so special it can only be done by offshored help...

IT has nothing left to give. We are incredibly understaffed and struggle to deliver on critical items. Contractors are almost 70% offshore to save money. After last year’s bloodbath, If they let more of IT go the company will be technologically paralyzed.

There is a hiring freeze and open reqs are being closed. Team was supposed to go to 11 - with 3 open reqs. Was asked to close those 3 and go down 1 headcount.

The rif will be in October - to announce that they’ve done cost cutting measures to shore up a bad Q3.

Some rifs already occurred in consumer - more to come to other orgs

Telcom is not selling any phones or new plans. IT costs to much for the earned revenue. information tech has no benfit to increase the revenue. Things are just too expensive to keep IT more than 50 to 100 people in size. 100 people or more in IT is re--rded.

Yes, there will be layoffs in October! I’ve heard that upper level management is asking for all contractor use to be scrutinized, and no additional contractors can be hired. That means the money is drying up and employees will be cut in lieu of eliminating contractors as contracted labor is cheaper.

T-Mobile US total number of employees in 2023 was 67,000, a 5.63% decline from 2022.
T-Mobile US total number of employees in 2022 was 71,000, a 5.33% decline from 2021.
T-Mobile US total number of employees in 2021 was 75,000, a 0% decline from 2020.
T-Mobile US total number of employees in 2020 was 75,000, a 41.51% increase from 2019.
T-Mobile US total number of employees in 2020 was 53,000, a 1.9% increase from 2018

Rumor always has been T-Mobile wanted to get back to the pre-Merger number (53K in 2020). They've cut over 5% each of the past 2 years. If they try to do that in October, that's a 20% headcount reduction. Lookout kids.

What @1ygn+1unc4j9p said.

Mike told us in the all hands to prepare for some belt tightening. Surely executive comp and benefits will be scrutinized in this effort.
