Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Beware world outside of North America -- awfully awful

Broadcom is the worst employer I've ever worked for.

Interior doors have been broken for more than a week.

There is less restroom service than vmware used to have -- and that was legendarily bad.

The vending machines have prices beyond gouging. Don't buy anything, make the vendor lose money.

Trash outside the buildings is not being picked up.

Internal infra is worse now than under the old set of bosses, and that was shockingly failure prone.

All those folks in Ireland, think carefully before agreeing to the terms.

This is what happens when people vote for leaders who destroy the economy.
This is what Americans voted for - not as bad as what they are doing to
Gaza of course - but this is all fallout from selfish Americans and their
destruction of the economy.

Someone close the door, the uneducated have wandered in again.

Also, just turn off FauxNews, OAN and NewsMax.

Everyone will assume that someone else will call for help. So when help
does not arrive, it is someone else's fault.

I personally filed a complaint about a manager who was doing things for their personal career building (spending a lot of money to burnish his resume), not the compant's benefit. Person was cleared because he talked with another manager about the things he wanted to do. The people who would be adversely affected were never consulted.

So, people DID dial 911. The Fix It brigade never responded.

That's fair! [and I have my own reasons for having no love loss for VMSwear]

Besides, the way things are going for VMWare, none of this matters anyway. Good luck if you're still there.

Let me ask you a question: is defending rotten behaviour part of VMWare's culture?

Of course not, but you're creating a scenario where only you are correct.

There's been no evidence that it was supported and allowed by leadership. This comes down to the emergency call situation (911, 112, 999). Everyone will assume that someone else will call for help. So when help does not arrive, it is someone else's fault.

One rando on the internet does not make it a culture, and behavior that was allowed in the past does not mean those who committed were not held accountable. Those things don't exactly get posted in #announcements.

Let me ask you a question: is defending rotten behaviour part of VMWare's culture? The poster clearly said that he/she observed racist and s-xist behaviour and it was known and recognized, and not condemned (presumably by upper management). Sounds like perhaps this SVP was "protected" because "too important to fire"? Sounds like rotten culture that goes all the way to the top?

SMH.

Items related to a single SVP/manager in a single department do not make it a culture.

Unless that person was an executive who surrounded themselves with people who do similar.

It sounds like you were in a bad spot in a bad team. Definitely not the vibes elsewhere.

If you say so. If that kind of behaviour is (a) known and recognized, (b) not condemned (i.e. passively condoned), and (c) it's practiced by SVPs

then I'd call that part of the culture.

But hey, you do you.

Nothing you mentioned is part of the culture, those are just bad things that happened to you, there is a difference.

Oh ... let's see. One where

(a) managers don't care about their employees, especially new hires who are left to sink or swim.
(b) coworkers who actively exclude you, (not just socially but professionally too) thus perpetuating the sink or swim mentality
(c) racist and s-xist managers (yes, I saw it first hand at VMWare)

Maybe sink-or-swim is a good thing? I'm guessing it isn't though. I could go on ... but I'm not there anymore so what do I care?

Horrible culture

Honestly, how can there be a horrible culture? There is either a great culture that lifts you up, or there's one that you just ignore. What are examples of work cultural items that actually negatively impacted you?

VMWare su-ked back in the day, what with the cliquishness and little exclusive coffee-klatch clubs. Horrible culture, disguised as "innovative" and "career enhancing". Can't say I'm not sad to see it exposed for what it is.

Toilet paper is still there in the bathrooms at least. I’m waiting for it to downgrade to single ply 220 grit though.

Nobody force you to work here. You can move anytime

You're correct, but

Maybe I already left.

Maybe I am just providing information so that people outside of NA don't get fooled by the deceptive practices of the company into signing on, and then hearing a Sith Lord say "I'm altering the deal, pray I don't alter it further."

Maybe waiting for an important deliverable to be due, and then me and the rest of the team are just going to walk out.

Maybe I'm just a troll who doesn't even work for BC.
