Disability claims adjuster here. Bosses want you out? They micromanage the cr-p out of you until you can't stand it anymore. They slow-walk approval of payments for benefits so that the claimant is calling you daily and taking up your day fielding calls where you have to tell them that you're unable to release payment because your boss wants you out. And God forbid you take more than the allotted time to call someone back when they leave a voicemail. Yes, I quit instead of letting them fire me -- I just couldn't take it anymore.

I'm sorry @1yfi+1pj25D35 and hope you can land on your feet quickly.
As for why you? Because you were a line item on a spreadsheet. It's zero indication of your abilities or skills. I doubt the person that made the decision even knows who you are.
the company has layoffs all the time in small increments so they don't have to report anything.
Seem to have different approaches to avoid WARN Act notices. Have seen people fired, laid off, driven out with pettiness. Not every person gets a package. Many will have to fight MetLife’s allegations of too fast/too slow, too much/not enough just to get unemployment.
There are lay offs. I got laid off recently and I was top performer per my manager, still wondering why me.
Sorry to hear. I hope you got a better job.
If I didn't have a job lined up, I'd make them fire me. In most cases, unless you did something egregious, you'd get a package.
