Thread regarding T-Mobile layoffs

How soon can you turn over the laptop after the layoff

I understand that your access will be gone as soon as you will be informed that you are impacted, but my question is:

  1. How soon can you turn over the laptop ? Do you have to keep all the way to 60 days during the garden leave.
  2. Can I go out of country for a month during that garden leave and do not loose my PTO which will get reimbursed.
  3. Do I have to turn over other accessaries as well besides laptop - e.g monitor, keyboard, headset etc.
  4. How long TMO will continue coverage of the health insurance after the Garden leave?

Was notified in the morning of 8/24 and was told my access would be turned off that day. Sr. Manager who called me for notice confirmed my email and mailing address to send out a box for the laptop (I was full-time remote since I was hired a few years back and never had a badge or access to an office to deal with).

I am still waiting for the IT box to arrive to return the POS Dell they gave me, but I took that afternoon to fully nuke all files on the physical device, OneDrive, Sharepoint folder, and Outlook. If they thought I wasn't useful anymore, then neither was the content I was still working on.

I am hearing your access is cut to all systems immediately and badge access gone now.

you get the 60 days paid(doesnt matter where you are)...then theyll payout youre PTO balance along with your severance. For the severance theres a cap somewhere up there I had a lot of years with the company.

No. You’re still an employee during that 60 days. It doesn’t matter if you’re sent packing that day and lose access or have to perform duties through day 60. After that 60 days you’re no longer employed and then subject to the terms of the severance plan.

“ Is the 60 days part of the 8 weeks + 2 weeks for every year of service for severance? Or is it 60 days then 8 weeks + 2-weeks for every year of service for severance?”

I am wondering about this as well.

They don't really care about your laptop. It will likely be trashed anyway. They just want to make sure they can wipe your drive asap. Most of the info is on the cloud now anyway. I have a graveyard of old TMobile laptops They never asked for after getting upgrades.

everyone's situation may be different. I was informed on 8/24. My ntid was locked that evening (or 5pm PST). my badge deactivated.

I was laid off officially on June 6, this was approximately 60 days after I was told in April. I turned my laptop in on June 3 and I still had email access until evening of June 7.

If you were legacy Sprint and you had legacy PTO from merger and your manager is nice, you can ask them to change your regular PTO you used this year to legacy PTO. This will allow you to get your regular PTO paid out higher as it will return to your balance. You will also continue earning PTO during that 60 day period.

To all your questions, it depends...

Some people had to turn over their laptop immediately and were "free." Don't need to come into the office, can travel, etc on your garden leave.

For others, they kept their laptop, but were made to continue to work for an extra few weeks to transition. Technically, you're still on payroll for those 60 days, so they can decide. But, as soon as you're "done" working, you turn your laptop in. They won't let you keep it for all 60 days unless they want you to work for those full 60 days.

  1. You can't keep for 60 days. TMO will send you a return box.
  2. You can do whatever you want in those 60 days. Read WARN act.
  3. No
  4. These 2 months and very likely for another 2-3 months. It will be in the letter.

These are best questions thus far. I am particularly interested on when we lose access… not for nefarious reasons, I just want to know when I stop working and my boss I’m not gonna ask me to do things
