Thread regarding USAA layoffs

What is JAR

I have recently joined the MSR team. People talk about using JAR for RTO. Can someone explain what that is?

RTO folks are separate from 100% remote. I’m sure/know some full time remote employees abuse it, but most do not. The only benefit I get from working from home is the opportunity to wear comfy footwear and eat my own food. Im otherwise chained to a desk and don’t take breaks. Definitely have gained 60 lbs being a remote employee with bosses and coworkers who don’t trust that I’m working unless I answer them immediately while I’ve witnessed insight employees socializing for hours at Starbucks.

I know someone in my compliance department that works remotely, works a second job in law enforcement using hot spot, while working alerts. It’s generally not acceptable but he still does it so he can work as law enforcement and be considered the law. Yes. Remote work is abused. He lives 60 miles away. Quit already

@208 I know who you are talking about. Some of her team has left rather quickly. People roll their eyes when she gets onto a zoom call...always late. She thinks her don't stink. Her and her female director peer are trying to be the chosen child for the AVP. It's fun watching them vying for attention. PATHETIC!

I’m so sick and tired of this RTO conversation. It’s 5 years old now. Go to another company. With the exception of military spouses, seriously, terminate the entire program and have every re apply.

I just personally know too many people that are permanent work from home that are just absolutely abusing the system. It’s a point where jobs are on the line and people are just outright driving around with laptops on hotspot while going to the gym, getting haircut, running errands. RTO has just abused. You can claim ADA and disability etc. all you want. It’s just blatantly obvious at this point that you’re taking advantage of the situation.

My director in Phx got a JAR approved because she had a mental breakdown on her drive home one day. She didn't mention she hates the military and all the uplifting talk about them on-site. That's who EMG select as our 'leaders'.

@1wh Agreed, nobody cares about RTO babies. Grow up and move on or quit. Just go away.

Seriously, people. Stfu about RTO. God. I genuinely hope they just fire every RTO person and have them just reapply for their job onsite.

@11t assuming you didn’t work long at USAA? Remote work was around long before Covid even existed, I had been remote since 2015 and only came into office if IT issues couldn’t be fixed within 2 hours. The issue is how USAA went about RTO and lied to majority of the employees who were promised to stay 100% remote.

To those of you complaining about RTO. GET OVER IT! There are some of us who have been laid off and would have preferred to RTO. Be grateful for the job that you have or quit. That way there is room for those of us who NEED to work, no matter if it is onsite.
What did we do before COVID? We worked Onsite.

It’ll be quite difficult to get a JAR approved to remain remote or to go remote. USAA is cracking down on JARs for when it comes to working remote. Speaking from personal experience, I had a JAR to be in office 3 times a month, it came up for renewal back in June, and was denied, saying I didn’t get diagnosed by the “correct doctors”.

• A JAR means a Job Accommodation Request.
• It is a request from an employee to change something at work because of a medical condition, injury, or disability. You ask for adjustments that help you do your job or access your work environment.
• You do not have to use legal language or mention ADA terms. Saying you need something at work because of a health issue can start the process.

You’re going to make the requests through Lincoln Financial.

Any request will need to be supported by medical evidence. (Sometimes a doctors note, sometimes more)

This is an “interactive process”. Understand what that means. (The dialogue is on-going until the best solution is found.

Expect some sort of “follow-up” usually annually

Just a heads up, RTO via JARs are like RARELY approved these days. Consult with some AI tools and peers who have been successful (recently) in getting theirs approved.

It’s key that your request is clear, founded on medical evidence, and you’re communicating.

Specifically for RTO, this will be a frustrating process - DO NOT GET FRUSTRATED.
