Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Actively looking for the fire escape

I'm miserable. Overwhelmed due to picking up slack from layoffs.
Being told the quality of our work needs to improve while the load doubles or triples.
No bump in pay this year.
I have no confidence this company cares at all for our well being.
Actively looking for the fire escape.

Putting this up bcs I share the experience and sentiment, @wlb+1tiabyRK . I suspect many of us do.

Do the absolute minimum and collect RSUs. Be like all our former VMW leaders that got massive golden parachutes and ran the company into the ground.

The blame lies firmly in the hands of the owners (Dell, Silverlake, Broadcom).

I blame Joe Tucci. Funded his retirement by F***ing VMware in the deal with Dell.

I don't know why folks keep blaming Pat. He didn't ruin the company, Michael Dell did by using it as a piggy bank. VMware (unlike Microsoft and other companies) couldn't use stock to acquire firms. They also couldn't use their P&L as the company had increasing amounts of debt to finance the EMC takeover (VMware sent upwards of $25b to Dell, at times borrowing the cash), this is cash that could have been used to finance growth, R&D etc all the things Broadcom says it will do. To add insult to injury when the company was spun off more debt was added, so it's stock tanked, making it an easy acquisition target. Remember, Avago Technologies was also a Silverlake investment. This isn't as much about Pat as it is about Micheal Dell using VMware and dumping it as soon as he was done. VMware had revenue and cashflow a couple of billion dollars below Adobe, but Adobe consistently had +100b in market cap as it's earnings weren't going to pay off another firms acquisitions. The blame lies firmly in the hands of the owners (Dell, Silverlake, Broadcom).

“Double” or “Triple” the work at the still bloated VMware cow is equal to a regular working pace at other companies. Does your stressful pace keep you from continually checking on how much money you’ll make on RSU cash outs during the day?

"closer to faang/microsoft than legacy firms like VMware"
AS IF Microsoft were not a legacy firm... you crack me up"

Don't compare Microsoft with Broadcom/VMware, they are still very relevant thanks to Satya. Also for the past 5 years, Msft stock is doing very good and they didn't miss the cloud as VMware did. Pat G. ruined the company, now will bankrupt Intel.

Toxic sludge is sent downstream to KKR. Thats where most of BC divisions will end up slowly.

Its just a private equity end game. All companies are ending up with BC one by one and all the debt is loaded up by BC. They can't and won't repay the debt. Everyone will be laid off in a couple of years.

I am much better at Broadcom - higher pay, less coasters, it is much closer to faang/microsoft than legacy firms like VMware/HP/Dell
