Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

How to identify bs and defend yourself

Charlies goal is to get you to quit.

Charlie set the tone when he changed our status from Team Members to employees. Everything he has done is anti-employee.

Here is a list of what he has done and what you can do to get even:

  1. Cutting severance package in half (DONE)
  1. Change 401k match from quarterly to annually (DONE)
  1. Shift work to India and Phillipines(DONE)
  1. Hub strategy to make you choose between family and community vs your job (Delayed)
  1. Forced ranking - a failed rating approach used by GE designed to put you on defensive and become a popularity contest(START 2021)
  1. Increase span of control to eliminate process and procedure. (DONE)
  1. Double triple and quadruple workload - as folks get cut, india comes in unable to do the work, which falls back to you (DONE)
  1. Remove profit sharing from 401k and move to at a whim discretionary match.

How to defend yourself:

  1. Maximize your training opportunities. India get bonus and praise for learning new skills and Wells pays for it. Request training, in writing. Document it all using pictures on personal cell phone. This can be used as evidence in future discrimination hearing.
  1. Look for another job that allows remote work. It is encouraged to try to work Wells job and another job at same time. Remote work is here to stay. Focus more on other job, solidify it, then when ready quit bank.
  1. Document india asking for help. Write a log in google sheets on cell phone. nUse to defend yourself agaonst forced ranking xharges. Make yourself less available. Answer questions with questions. Make transition less easy and make everything they ask a joke.
  1. Just work less hard. Dont work more than 36 hours a week on anything. In agile sessions overestimate your time. If task takes 3 hours push for 6 to 9 hour task.
  1. Read up on policy. Use policy to thwart workstreams. Many times managers, project managers or even branch managers are not 100% versed in policy. Whenever something comes up thats a little left of center quote anti-policy risk; if you are in tech data or any back office function, use this liberally.
  1. Be sure to read policy on employee behavior. International teams have a different policy. Use the difference to log complaints in HR when international steps over the line.
  1. Take family leave as often as you can. Congress passed the family leave act. If you are a critical worker, take time off. There are lots of conditions that qualify as "serious condition" - read up on law; you are entitled to FMLA if you in anyway remotely qualify: https://www.dol.gov/agencies/whd/opinion-letters/search
  1. Use more bad data, bad code, omit paperwork to slow down business.

The OP is out of bounds for rational thought. Would a Team Member by any other name smell as sweet? There are plenty of complaints to be lodged , so why make up something like cutting severance package in half? And why blame Charlie for decisions which were made before him such as shifting work to India and Philippines, the Hub strategy which makes you choose between family and community vs your job? He actually delayed that so shouldn’t you be grateful for that at least?

And Charlie isn’t increasing span of control, he is decreasing it…. I doubt that you even work here or you would know these things…

I've LONG heard rumors about severance being cut in half, but currently salary continuation is still 2 weeks per year of service, with some exceptions. Am I missing something? I no longer recognize the company I started working for years ago, but I won't allow myself to be irritated by the one thing the company hasn't actually done. Yet.

"Maximize your training opportunities. India get bonus and praise for learning new skills and Wells pays for it. Request training, in writing. Document it all using pictures on personal cell phone. This can be used as evidence in future discrimination hearing."

Training? They have given us training...via Pluralsight and DevelopYou. They tell us to pick some courses we think we ought to take, then hold us accountable by adding these to our goals/objectives in addition to the expectation that this "training" is applied to something in our current workload... and within the course of a couple quarters. Because we all know how realistic that is – there couldn't be a more perfect way to set people up for failure without being held accountable.

Ok well you missed the entire point behind my post by focusing in on one word out of approximately 50.

I am going to focus on one word only out of your entire post: guard

Nowhere in his/her post does @lmol say anything about wanting to be a guard at WFC.

See how that works? And you want to preach common sense.

I don’t disagree with much of what you have to say, but your post is so vile and angry, that anything good you are trying to preach to the masses gets lost in translation behind your name–calling and insults. You can’t successfully teach morality and integrity, while at the same time calling people hypocrites and insulting their belief system.

If you are just wanting to sound holier–than–thou: you succeeded.

If you actually want people to be better, you yourself have to be better first.

You sound like you would be perfect selling multilevel marketing schemes, aka pyramid schemes. Do you sell Amway? Herbalife? Have Argonne parties at you friend’s houses and guilt them in to buying overpriced products so you can profit from your relationships? Are you a “Boss Babe”? Come on now. You sound like you believe all that Toxic Positivity bs they push on to their friends and family. If only they “worked a little harder”, they could sell more makeup etc.

Toxic Positivity is blaming people for legitimate emotions resulting from negative events in their life. You seem to enjoy invalidating people’s hardships and forcing your opinions on them. You know you are selfish and self– righteous and you enjoy belittling others. What does that say about you?

There is a “romance scammer” on the internet waiting for you. They will cultivate you, and you will be an easy target, because you are unable to decipher good people from bad people. The scammer will take small things from you first, to test your loyalty to them, and then they will take you for everything you have. Your family and friends will try to tell you that you are being scammed, but you will deny reality and defend your online lover adamantly because you need to believe you are always right. Once the scammer has taken everything you have to give, he/she will drop you like a hot potato, but you won’t get it even then because you are always right and everyone else is always wrong.

Oh hon! God love ya. You, first, accuse OP of being “completely delusional”. Then someone replies to your post and says YOU are delusional. Then you go off on some self–righteous tangent about that person “projecting their experience on to others” because THEY called YOU delusional. If only you could fix yourself before you try to fix others.

Goodness! Put that passion and allegiance to work for something good. Your undying loyalty and drive to stand up for your beliefs is remarkable. You could achieve good things in the world if you put that to work for a deserving cause such as protecting abused children, feeding the hungry, or working for The Red Cross.

You're such a hypocrite. "Morally reprehensible employer". If that's the case, why are you taking money from them to perpetrate this alleged immoral behavior by continuing to work here? If I disagreed with my employer as much as you claim to, I'd just leave, I wouldn't wh––e myself out to my immoral overlords. So which is it, are you lying about your real opinion of the company or do you just not see anything immoral about being a guard at the concentration camp? You don't get it both ways. Being a bad employee (aka intentionally under performing, sabotage etc.) in the grand scheme has no real impact on the company, but it does have an impact on you. It erodes your future self through the lack of integrity. I know you think you're taking some valiant stand against the immoral (while taking money to do their bidding...), but you're not. It's just a job, but how well you do whatever it is you do impacts you. No one ever did themselves a disservice by working hard and doing their job well. People very much have harmed themselves by not doing so, however. I would suggest that true work–related fulfillment isn't even possible without something close to maximum effort. Without that, you always could have done more, or done it better, and that will be a source of negativity. Again, this isn't about the CEO, the board, the company, or me, or anyone else here. If you want optimal outcomes in anything in life, minimum effort and being needlessly difficult / petulant isn't the path to get there. The ranks of the truly successful people in this world are full of people that don't care, are lazy, spend all day on the phone with HR, complain 24/7 etc. Right? Yeah, pretty much the opposite.

As to the "ohhh M geeee, you're saying this stuff on a layoff site, I'm so offended!" blathering goes, the people that should care most about losing their jobs are those that actually like their job. That's just common sense. You come here saying that the company is the worst thing ever and that every other job would be better...and then you're upset at the idea of losing said job? Shouldn't you be happy to no longer serve such a "toxic" master? Are you upset that the camp closed and you can't be a guard anymore? That fundamentally makes no sense. If the place is toxic, immoral, evil, whatever, you should be glad to leave.

What a clueless post. I know of no large bank in the industry which offers a severance package comparable to the Wells offering. The Wells severance package is so generous in comparison to all of our competitors that it is somewhat shocking that Schart has not cut it in half. generous”.

Name just one bank with a better package. You cannot.

Personally, I’m not up for sabotage. But I do literally despise anyone in a position of power who takes advantage of people with less power. Here, it is Charlie and the BOD. To me, they are no better than Madoff, exploiting people for their own gain. And the people who support them, stand up for them and help them in their efforts are equally despicable. And weak. I would be embarrassed to post my weaknesses daily as some here do.

I'm not miserable, and I'm actually glad people are waking up to the idea that it's good to sabotage a morally reprehensible employer. Doing the right thing is fulfilling.

But keep up your Wells Fargo–inner peace shtick; coming in to a layoff board on your high horse to grace us with trite nonsense is not the picture of mental health you think it is. But then again, self–awareness doesn't come easy to people with Narcissistic Personality Disorder :/

@1hxp+1awj9q33 For real. Of course the boomers posting here would try to paint some spiteful minor act against your benevolent employer...Wells Fargo (lol) as somehow corrupting your soul.

Get over yourselves, OP is right. Revenge is healthy and the foundation of the justice system. You don't owe WF anything past the bare minimum to not get fired. If you can sneak in a couple twists of the kn––e, do it...don't fu–k over someone who doesn't deserve it, but if they do, go for it. Rest easy knowing you did the right thing. Wasted labor is $ out of Wells' pocket.

there are people here still in 2021 doing things manually (like patching) this is in infosec, they think this is security. In reality, every other company fully automates using code and keeps in a code repo like git so it is repeatble.

I think it is critical everything in infra is done using IaC. I am suprised this is allowed by management to do things manually.

Next the CR process needs to come to current days of 2021. This is light years behind. Pathetic! Then there is where the master spell checkers come in, to read CR's but they really dont understand any of what it says, they only check for spelling mistakes.

What a waste.

@1vcg+1awj9q33, come on, this place is a bunch of criminals; days of financial markets in these old ways days are numbered.

They are building block chain networks to where they can track everything and enhance security and financial markets will operate off this up and coming network; internet you know today soon to be gone too, to a very secure internet, tracking everything you do, and all of it going on your permanent record any one can look up. You better be careful. I would suggest moving to an organization that follows some laws at least versus no laws.

Sorry to report that it does get harder from here. Good luck, yes life is challenging, much less now than 25, 50, 75 years ago but yes, still challenging.

Good luck child and best to focus on what you can offer.

Sincere and good advice... worth more than 100,000 participation trophies.

It doesn't take Freud to know that revenge is hardly the road to positive psychological outcomes. There's actually a lot of negative outcomes to going down that road. So with this in mind, what do you suggest? I elected to invest a few minutes to discourage the practice. Not for the execs benefit, or my benefit, but for the benefit of those considering going down that road. You're perfectly free to advocate self–destructiveness to your hearts content, and I'm free to promote the alternative.

Sheesh, slow Saturday at your house OP?

Let's see, you could cut off your nose to spite your face, and give yourself a bleeding ulcer from all your barely–repressed anger that hurts no one but yourself.... or you could just find another job. Your energy is completely misdirected. If WF is such a hot mess, attitudes like yours aren't helping.

By all means, do a crummy job to "punish" Charlie. You do realize you won't get unemployment if you are fired right? Sounds like a solid plan.

Sabotage will never lead to real / lasting satisfaction in anyone's life. Might feel good for a little while, but that's a short term high at best. At some point you'll realize that the only person you're hurting is yourself and perhaps a few other ICs that work in your group, and any satisfaction that there was temporarily will evaporate.

As far as my alleged delusion goes, you seem to be projecting your experience on to others. No one has abused me at WF. My journey here has been a fantastic opportunity and I appreciate it. My manager is great and I enjoy my job. Could things be even better? Sure, but no one ever got to better by turning into sabotage guy, never help others guy, call HR 27 times a day guy, or constant complainer guy. One of the more bizarre things about this place is this:

The Layoff: OMG, I'm never helping anyone but myself, and I hate my coworkers, and I'm gonna burn this place down!

Also The Layoff: OMG, the work environment is so toxic!

See the problem here? Some people need to look in a mirror and understand what they are contributing to an environments 'toxicity'. Clearly it isn't all coming from 'the top'. I don't know about you guys, but I don't work with any executives. That crowd has very little to do with whether or not the environment I'm in is "toxic". At least in my area that's much more driven by manager and peers, not the executives. So if I've got a good manager and good peers, it's a great place to work. It was like that long before CS came along, or Parker, or Sloan, or Stumpf. In any case, if I hated where I worked I'd leave...but I don't, so why would I? Perhaps more importantly, why haven't you?
